54718, CEL - Throttle Position Sensor???? Posted by Chowmane99, Jul-07-03 03:16 AM
Hey - What's up guys/gals. Been a long time since I been on this board again.
I got a question - just got a CEL on - went to Autozone and they determined it to be a "Throttle Position Sensor" problem.
I disconnected the battery and everything is fine for about a few days and then it's back again (CEL).
So I think I need to replace it (Cost $89 buck at Autozone). Can this be done by us. I'm pretty good with cars (Done Fuel Filter, Alternators, Brakes, Lowering Springs, Air Intake, exhaust, ect...) but never touched a this area.
DO I need to replace it - everything runs fine. How much would it cost to have a shop do it. I know a lot of garage that will do anything for cash - cheap/fair price.

Got torx? The TPS is held onto the TB by Torx bolts, #20 I think. Here's what ya do.
Remove AIC and TPS wiring from the TB. Remove the TB from the manifold. Remove the TPS from the TB(torx bit). Now, these torx screws are loctited in at the factory - so it will be difficult to break them loose. Once you break them loose, they should come off nice and easey. Put new TPS on(no need to loctite). Put the TB back on the manifold. Reconnect wiring.
Easy.
