5460, fuel presure regulator location and vacuum hose Posted by jdeyo, Jul-20-01 03:04 AM
I am trying to find out why my car runs rich. I went to check my fuel pressure regulator, but it is not in the location that my Chilton's manual says. I drive a 96 GS and the fuel filter is located by the gas tank in the back of the car (i know cause I changed it). Occording to Chilton's, the FPR is supposed to be on the passenger side of the fuel rail along with a vacuum hose connection. I do not have one there. I cannot find where the FPR is. I can find the fuel rail, four injectors, and the fuel line. I also cannot find the fuel return line as outlined in the Chilton's. Again, on the end of my fuel rail where there is supposed to be a FPR and a vacuum connection, there is just an end of a fuel rail. Is it possible that it was moved, or that different year model cars have different setups? The car seems to drive ok, except for really bad gas mileage (I average 17-20 mpg on a 15.9 gal tank).

Jared, If your fuel filter is in the back of your car by the gas tank than your FPR is connected to the fuel filter right above it. It is a black looking circular thing that is connected to the fuel pressure by a banjo bolt and it sort of goes in to the chassis. Hope that helps.

ahhh ha.... I feel stupid. Well, I will go check it out. I thought for sure that Mitsu might have forgot something last time I was there. I spent an hour outside looking for the damn thing like a dumbass. Chilton's does not even mention (not that I could find) info about the FPR being located in the back of the car. So, is there a vacuum line that runs back to this FPR? How does it regulate fuel flow; where does it get info from?
Hey Mick, are you at work?
