I was talking to a guy tonight he said it was worthless. He had a good point that the 4g63 guys remove balance shafts. But i would like the motor to last and for it to run to it's fullest i am sure most guys on here don't balance seens they put stock size aftermarket pistons in. I need answers from the big dogs 15 plus psi turbo guys. Thanks

my engine not being balanced is the rason i barely go over my increased rev limiter (8300). i dont think its worthless for some applications by any means.

If it's not balanced, you're just not serious.
A good balance job does nothing but help the feel, longevity, and output of your motor. it's a good thing all around. The motor feels smooth throught the powerband, less vibration, and better driver comfort and daily drivability.
I'll admit, my motor wasn;t thoroughly balanced when i had it assembled. We spun the crank on a lathe with a micrometer on it to 2,000RPM. There was no deflection in the gauge, so we left it alone. it isn't that i'm not serious, just that the copany that built my motor is an industrial machine and fab shop, not an engine shop. The equipment just wasn't there because that isn't what they do. I get a good bit of vibration in the car, but it was there when it was stock and i like it. It's a massage after a long day :-)
4g6 balance shafts are not part of the bottom end balance .. they simply help to cancel out vibration inherit to inline 4 cylinder motors. Removing them does not effect the balance of the bottom end at all.. it just makes more NVH.. noise, vibration, and harhness.

One less belt for them to change. One less belt to fail and end up in their timing belt, causing it to jump teeth and break shit. Less rotating mass. Faster engine spinup. Two less things to fail that can take the whole motor with it.
It frees up HP, just like adding an underdrive pulley does for us. Less work the motor has to do every rev.

I had a long deiscusion about balancing with my dad. And seens he will be the one assemblying the motor He said he is not going to let me not balance the motor. So i guess it will be getting bored and balanced monday. Just more money i need to spend. But will probaly payout in the long run.

i agree with dino "If it's not balanced, you're just not serious" i had my balanced and for the life of the engine and talking with my mechanic who builts all types of motors v8, 420a, 4g63 etc etc etc. both him and his machine shop said the same exact thing dino said. but hey, you dont need to balance now maybe later on your 2nd motor. anyways good luck

My entire rotating assembly was balanced on the rebuild, and i could def tell it reved smoother, and also has less vibration all around in the rpm band. Even at idle, it doenst vibrate as bad using the ES motor mount inserts.. Def have it balanced.

It also helps to reduce resonance that can do serious damage to your motor (spin bearings). The 4g63's balance shafts are mainly designed to eliminate resonance which is why they dont have a harmonic dampener on the crank pully like ours does. You should not remove the balance shafts in that motor unless your rotating assembly is balanced or you may have much more serious problems then a little more vibration.
It isn't as serious on our cars that we remove the stock underdrive pully that has a harmonic dampener because of our massive bedplate. If we had a wimpy bedplate or just main bearing caps, I would say definately dont put on an UDP without having the motor balanced first. I definately agree with dino and your dad though. If your going to rebuild your motor to take more abuse, not balancing the rotating assembly would be a definate mistake.

balance it spend the 150$ it takes to balance it i do on every motor...
next motor i build will have an extremely extensive balance tolerance...

Ive always thought it was the other way around??
