54171, I REALLY TRUELY NEED HELP... (wanna cry.... ) Posted by gilee_8, Jun-29-03 04:34 PM
Hello Everyone. At first, I posted in "auto Tranny" section, but guess no one cares about my situation over there, so I repost it here. Please reply with inputs!! Gil
As you all been reading, I been doing an engine rebuilt for my g/f's eclipse for the past 6 weeks. It's getting TOOO long, and I am just .... VERY TIRED OF IT. I got it back into the car today, and break in the car (15 mins start) and everything is cool... BUT.... VERY SADLY, the car won't move.
Ok guys, now I have to ask all of you a BIG favor, you guys have to tell me everything you guys konw about ATX tranny and engine rebuilt....etc....
------------------------------------------------------------------ A breif explanation on my car's rebuilt history first: I got the car, and I spun her bearing, so much that the piston hits the head, and fucked up the whole crank. I took the everything off, but leave the tranny in the car (only the engine out) And at first, I don't konw there were 4 bolts that connect to from the flywheel (engine side) to the Torque Converter (Tranny side) So I think I BENTED it (that's my problem I think).... Anyway, after 4 hours of struggle, I got it figure it out, gave it to a shop for New ring, new bearing (all bearing, main, rod) and hone, clean, cut the whole crank, etc... I put everything back, and the first 4 times I put the engine back, I CAN"T turn the crank after the flywheel (the big gear) is bolt to the Torque Converter. My 4th or 5th time of reputting the engine back into the car, it turns, so I was like.... THANK GOD.... After everything is in, and hook EVERYTHING back, I start the engine... ALL GOOD, sound good and everything, BUT I hear trick, trick, trick, NOT from the engine, but from the tranny....But anyway, I keep it run at 1500RPM for first break in. Then I cool it down and go for a test drive.... ---------------------------------------------------------------
The sad story begins... no matter what gear I put the car into, the car WON"T MOVE, it's like the engine doesn't hold to the tranny. I made sure the cable is connected, when it shift, the cable to pull. Also when I shift to every gear, like 'park', the car won't move, and so on...so the tranny to the wheel is FINE. Also, after a while of break in, the tranny has ALOT of smoke comes out, from the dip stick of the tranny and etc....
Anyway.. here is the problem: 1) Tranny has tricking sound 2) Engine turns, but car WON"T move in any gear 3) Smoke comes out for 5 minutes, but now it has no more smoke... (I think maybe too hot, and smoke from WD-40 or etc... Hope so)
So any input??? Is it something EASY??? or did I fucked up the tranny from benting the TC when pulling out the engine??
Please reply....I AM CRYING (soon)....... engine is fine from spun bearing... 6 weeks..and now...it tells me "I FUCKED THE TRANNY UP"....wtf....ARR>>....
PLEASE HELP Any input will greatly appreciated. Gil

I want to save money, so I do the rebuilt myself... took me 6 weeks of HARD work....And yes.. the Engine Runs like BRAND NEW now... spent me over $1000...and GOOd.. it's perfect.. and why God, I have to konw that I FUCKED UP THE TRANNY... MYSELF!!!
WHY!!! Please guys.. tell me, SOEMTHING, .... something I should do, I am about to junk the car..... what can I do?? I just can't put out $3000 for a garage to fix my tranny ...... I just can't!!!

Ok, just checking here, you did refil the trans with more tranny fluid right? If you pulled off the TC from the tranny, you should have lost lots of fluid. If the trans is low on fluid, then it wont work for shit..ya know, just checking.. To get an accurat reading for fluid level though, the trans need to be at full operating temps, and on level ground, in P

That's what I'm thinking too. Also, when you put the TC in, you should've filled it FULL of ATF. That's all I can think of for now.

check the fluid level and the FILTER. A buddy of mine had a talon with a really nasty filter in it and it fucked up his whole tranny. It looked like green rocks were in his tranny. Check the basics then i would CAREFULLY check the bolt up of the tranny to make sure you didn't forget anything...check recheck then doublecheck again :)

Hey, guys. Thanks for the input... I never pull out the TC, but I keep turning it and for my 4th time putting the engine back into the tranny... I can turn the crank after I bolt up the flywheel and the TC....so I guess it works. Also, then I fill up the Tranny fluid to MAX... to where it said should be when HOT...
SO basically I never open up the tranny before... so what should I do now? Please, I am planning on partting out the car and just sell everything.. coz I WILL NOT spend an other $2000- 3000 for fixing the car.....
PLEASE give me more input...thanks! Gil

theres no way you should have to spend $2000-3000 on the tranny. if you need to replace it someone on here probably has one for a reasonable price.
now i'm assuming you have a service manual since you rebuilt the engine, but incase you don't, or you have a chiltons, download the AT section from the link in my sig.

Guys... I konw alot of you out there KNOW alot of stuff about ATX and engine rebuilt... please, give me some input and support here. I REALLY REALLY feel very depress. Not because I can't fix the engine, coz I GOT IT DONE... but the fact is, I got one thing FIXED (all by myself and 6 weeks) -- (of course with all you guys help) But then I realize I BROKE another thing... that's VERY SAD..and it's done by myself... I just can't stop blaming myself about HOW FXXKING stupid I am.....
Anyway.. here is the problem again... (symptoms): 1) Tranny has tricking sound (ever since first engine start till NOW) 2) Engine runs like champs, but car WON"T move in any gear 3) Smoke comes out from tranny's dip stick & bellhousing area for the first 5 minutes engine start, but after it has no more smoke...
**(I think I sprayed alot of WD-40 and water when I put everything back... but the wierd thing is, smoke come out from dip stick of the tranny... HELP)**
So any input??? Is it something EASY??? or did I fucked up the tranny from benting the TC when pulling out the engine??
Thanks guys... Any input of yours will be GREAT GREATLY appreciated, since I am at a point of clueless, and hopeless. Thanks guys. Gil

Did you just say you bent the torque converter?
That could be bad news, if it not aligning right or catching the shaft it wouldn't surpise me if it didn't want to spin or hold pressure...
Can you turn the crank by hand with the car in a gear do the wheels move? Jack the car up and cycle throgh the gears, can you turn the wheels by hand?
I don't know an extreme amount amount AT, just trying to get a little more info for those that do...

Before I put the engine back, when I turn the TC, in any gear, the wheels doesn't move.
I thought that's normal....??? is it?
Thanks again, please give as many input as you guys can! Thanks.
