54147, got my I-J crankscraper today
Posted by Twiste, Jun-29-03 10:58 AM
It looks really nice...nice, thick, and strong...it looks like it is made to specs really nice and I cant wait to put it on to see if i feel any gains. Im going to have to wait for about 3000 miles though cause i just changed my oil about 3 weeks ago.

I have been thinking about getting one as well.... oil change coming up in 500 miles.

I have heard that you may have to machine them down a little to clear the crank. I suppose you really dont want this thing touching the crankshaft at high rpms.

Any of this true, or can I just bolt it right up?

I've never seen one of those. What exactly does it do? Is is just like an extra thick oil pan gasket?

In the pic of your crank scraper, what are the two spots where it looks like the metal is scraped off. Just wondering. And BTW I don't think that is a 420A in the bottom pic. There are lots of differences between yours and that one. I could be wrong though, if I am my bad.

What are some of the benefits?

· Less rotating mass for the engine to accelerate because of the removed oil

· Less loss of power because of excessive drag caused by the windage cloud

· Helps avoid oil starvation by keeping the oil in the pan during hard braking and turning as well as during off-road driving

· Helps to cool critical engine parts by quickly returning heated oil to the sump

· Helps to prevent the cylinder walls from being overloaded with oil

· Can help with fuel efficiency

If you order one, tell them that you know me, James, and they will get it to you faster.

it isnt metal shaved off, it is just paper from the packaging cause he like glued the wrapping to it and i just ripped the paper off and some stuck on.

are there any real benifits to anyone's knowlege with it installed on our cars... this seems like a well done product, but i worry some as it seems a little new and untested as if it actually does add any improvement on our cars... i would love to get one if it really helps and does what it says.. otherwise it just looks like anohter clever way to get peoples money...

no, actually it isnt anything new, it has been used on race cars a lot in the past but it is starting to become more of an everday thing now. I know there are some people on here that already have them and they say there is a difference and in theory it makes sense that is would work.

It'll be the same with me, built head andcrank scraper who knows the difference. But some have said an improvement in smoothness of the revs, etc...

I think it's worth it, that's why I bought one. Mine had the paper stuck to it too, just the way it's packaged, comes off real easy though (I used Gun Scrub on it, closest cleaner I had handy).

There's an outstanding group buy in the announcement section if you guys can pull together 30 people.
