Got a cel the other day. Went to autozone and they came up with P0455. The pcm has determined that a large leak exists in the evaporative emmission control system.

So what does that mean? My car seems to run just fine though.

i dont exactly know what the hell that is. but i sounds like the evap cel. i dunno, i just tighted my gas cap, and checks all lines to the evap canister.

where is that canister?

that CEL is BS. i've had it since day one. i'm so used to the CEL now (between the S-AFC, MAP sensor tweaking out occsionally, running rich every now and then, my oxygen sensor being about ready to shit the bed, etc...), i get worried when it goes off - it means that something is wrong.

if you really want to fix it, get a new EVAP thingy. you know that black cylinder to the left of the power steering resoviouaweflkashfd? i think that's it. i hear that getting a new one of those from satan ($70) will fix the problem.

Burp, Fart, ahem! It's the funkie apperatus in front of the passenger side front tire, down low behind the bumper. Don't ask me what to do with it though, but it does look susceptible to vibration and rough road conditions.

that's the charcoal canister.

You might want to do a quick SEARCH on "evap" and "turbo." Having the turbo causes some irregularities to some of the valves in the evap emissions on our 2gnt. Matt (XtremeRS) had a terrific explanation of it from another guy's discovery of the same problem. It seems evenutally, that all of us 96+ guys get this light with a turbo. (the boost causes an evap system valve to reverse its diaphram from the positive pressure and tear on its own plastic body)

What's the solution, get the new valve that goes above the gas tank that causes this problem and then put a check valve inline OR, simply unhook the system. I disconnected the vacuum lines to both the inlet and outlet of the evap system (off the throttle body and intake plenum) and interestingly, I don't get the code anymore for that. Now, I just get the code for my unhooked EGR.

Bottom line: Emissions crap sucks and only elongates your vacuum lines unnecessarily. I don't have any sort of of emissions police here, so I only have my EIC, FPR, BOV, boost gauge and cruise control hooked to my vacuum lines...well my, brake booster as well. My PCV is the next on the list to go.

yea..... after finding out that it is a cel 31 (didnt know that, cant do the keydance), it seems to be a common problem for us but it doesnt hurt performance. just emissions crap. o well. i guess the light stays on. i was just worried cuz this was my 1st cel. thanks.
