yesterday i had my water pump go out on my eclipse and the mechanic is replacing the water pump and the timing belt. i was told today that the head is warped a little. was wondering if i should have the head milled if possible or get a new/remanufatured head. let me know your thoughts.

How do you know the head is warped? Did you pull it off? Is your headgasket leaking?

Kind of sounds to me like your mechanic is trying to get some more work out of you. I might be wrong though.

If it's warped, just take it to the machine shop and get it checked out there, and have them shave it down flat. Also, while it's off, change the gasket to a MLS one from Mitsu, you'll thank me later!

He probably has the head off the car...you can take measurements and determine if it is warped. If it is warped -- yes have it milled -- hell raise your compression a little bit -- it only costs about 30-50 dollars to mill a head and you will get some performance out of it...you have to run higher grade gas though.

I would recommend getting it milled about .030-.040...any more and it gets a little dangerous as you are reducing already tight tolerances of piston to valve clearances.

Dont forget to ask them why he had the head off for a t-belt, and waterpump change. Unless they assumed you wanted the headgasket changed.

i just talked to the mechanic and i guess the info i recieved was misinterpeted when it was relayed to me. he said the head is not warped but there is still problem that he has not figured out what it is yet. he wants me to call him in 2 hours and he should know whats going on. we will see then

If your water pump went out... it may cause your head gasket to blow as the engine gets very hot and will burn holes in the gasket. If when you brought it in he saw mixing of oil and coolant...it means you blew your head gasket.

i got my car back. he never took the head off. what it was is after he put the timing belt and water pump in he started the car and it was running really rough. so he thought it could be a warped head but he checked it out and found he had set the timing off by 1 tooth. the person that relayed the message tends to jump to conclusions and said that he had the head off and it was warped. ended up costing me 120 plus parts. car seems to be running good so far.:thumbsup
