53771, snapped an engine mount! Posted by totaleklipse97, Jun-23-03 07:05 PM
well i was out friday night and next thing i know i hear this horrible sounds like snapping metal. and just this horrible grinding sound when i trying to move into a gear. it was horrible all i could think is That is not coming from my car!!!! but i could only roll to a stop. when i get my car towed home that night i look underneath and i see my c-v joint just hanging down near the ground. next day we pull it over to my mechanics house and prop the hood. i see my engine dropped three inches on the driver side, my engine mounts SNAPPED! and dropped my engine therefore tearing out my c-v joint. it was just a mess, but that wasn't all the belts ended up flipping upside down and one was torn in half the long way! instead of a 1/2 inch wide it's like a 1/4 inch. and the ribs are on top.. took over 15 hours to fix everything, luckily the only parts i had to buy was the c-v and belts (those are a pain in the ass). the guy welded the engine mounts back together. Guess the whole reason this happened was because when a guy installed my clutch before i bought it didn't put all the bolts back into the mounts. just thought i would share the carnage.. never trust work done by a mechanic u don't know, double check anything they coulda touched cause u never know what kinda work they are gonna do. has this happend to anyone else?????

I drove around for a few months without bolting down the rear motor mount. A couple months back the bolt in the front motor mount decides to break off on the freeway. Sound scared the shit out of me when all that metal hits the underbody going 85mph. But yeah, all you guys should make sure that all the motor mounts are tightly secured.

It's funny you should mention that cause I had the EXACT thing happen to me last summer at the drag strip. My mounts were secure though. What caused mine to break I believe was the horrible wheel hop I was getting. Broke both the Drivers side and rear mounts plus the CV joint as you said. Scary thing is, ever since that day the rear motor mount keeps breaking even under normal driving. I have replaced it 3 times since. It's like a curse. Hope the curse of the motor mounts dosen't come after you!;)
