Ok, I've searched this site and found discussions on water pump & timing belts but nothing seems to help, even though my prob is pretty much the same thing. So heres the deal, I'm trying to replace my Water Pump & Timing belt. I have the left side upper motor mount completely off. The ac belt off, the lower motor mount off, the coolant tank out, tried jacking the engine up and lowering it and still cant get these two long ass bolts out! Anyone know of any ways that don't envolve cutting or drilling like I've read in the other forums??? My brother is a mechanic, but hates Japaneese engineering cause they're hard as hell to work on. His idea is that we have to pull the engine out, completely disconnecting the trans and exaust. I'd rather not do this so please, help? And if anyone knows an online service manual site I'd apreciate it much. Thanks all, Laterz!:thumbsup

Only way i now is to take the engine out..or drill two holes thats what i did..2 holes or take out the engine...you make the choice

You can get the mount bolts out by having the timing belt covers off. Usually this means you have to break them off. With them off, you can maneuver the motor mount bracket around enough to get the room. Raising and lowering the motor helps too. For one of the bolts, you have to positon the motor so the head of the bolt can go between the two steel lines right on the frame rail in front of it. I had to bend up to make a gap a bit on them, but then you can pull out one of those bolts a bit farther, and that gives you just enough room to work the plate. You will have to leave the last 2 bolts in the plate while you move it around to get it out. Yeah, its a PITA..

i just cut the bolts. bought shorter ones that fit and have not had a problem since with engine work.

damnit cut the bolts got shorter ones would of been alot quicker than drilling my damn frame hahah.

What about raising up the body and droping the engine and trans rom under the car? Anyone tried that?

When you cut the bolts, what length bolts did you get to put back in it? That seems like the best option for me right now, i'm hoping to have this done tonight

Well, I did my timing belt and water pump and the like yesterday with some help, and I gotta say...it took about 9 hours. It's not a speedy thing in the least, so make sure you can either live without your car and space it out over a few days or (like I did) give yourself a full day, sunrise to sunset, to get it done.

BTW, the way we did it was the undo the side motor mount, then lower the engine to get the crankshaft pulley off (dunno if you did that yet, probably) and raise it as far as it'll go to get the bracket off the timing belt cover. It's a real bitch, but some patience, the help of someone who's done it before if possible, and a hydraulic jack will do wonders.

Just wait until you get to the actual belt though, fun times ;p

How in the name of God did you get the crankshaft pulley off? I've tried two different pullers and a few dierent methods and the damned thing won't budge! Thats the only problem I'm having. The idiots at the parts store don't know what it needs, they just keep recomending stuff that won't work. Do I have to get a special tool or pulley insert from the dealer?
