53640, Belt tensioner question
Posted by cool_g_83, Jun-22-03 12:12 PM
I have had a problem for the past few months, and i havent really been too "gung ho" about fixing it because it dealt with the AC. Whenever i would turn it on i would get a loud belt like squeek. But with the recent heat i am wanting to fix the squeek. So anyways, i went to tighten the belts and i got stuck. I was looking at it and there is one bolt that adjusts the tightness of the tensioner and the other holds its position. Well i figured out that the bolt that tightens it in and out is left=tight and right=loose. Now for the other one that holds it in position. I tried both ways and it was pretty damn tight. So before i go all out on it i want to know which way i should be going to loosen it so i can tighten the belts. Is it the same as the bolt that controls tightness (left=tight right=loose) or is it right=tight left=loose? i would like to know this before i bust my knuckles up. Thanks

If your belt tenson is to little. All i would do it losen your powersteering pump and then use a pry bar and pull back on it. This take some slack out and if you can get enough out of that righty tighty on the tensonor then try to pry it back. There are 3 bolts you need to losen on the Power steering pump..2 our right through the pully and the other one is on the other side that it pivits on..you just need to losen them..hope this is clear hehe..let me know
