53153, My car is too slow... and I don't want it any louder...

Here's the deal. I have a 97 RS auto and need to make it faster, but I don't want my engine noise to change. No loud exhaust, no loud air filters. I need the quietest products with the best performance. Also considering a Stage 1 turbo. Any suggestions??

I'm not an Auto...but if I were you, I'd probably start off with the final gear mod (I believe it's listed on the main page), add the new ECU from Howell...

...and then maybe add some spray for the way back...'cuz ya know the Yenko'll snap the speedo in 5...

Nitrous man!! You can get a 50 shot and not hurt a thing, and it is as quite as a kitten.

I forgot to mention... I want to improve my low end more than top end. I'd love to improve top speed, but my sluggish pick-up is my major concern. Mostly to get out of sticky situations. Nitrous is cool, but I'm looking for engine mods mostly, would consider NOS though... any other input?

UM lets see. Ignition, underdrive pulley, cam gears, any engine work will help alot, expecialy port and polish. The underdrive pulley will help alot for your lower end, also the cam gears. You could also put some big stickers on it that always give you alot of HP!!!:thumbsup.
once again I hope that helps.

ps. the gears and pulley are like $200 if you shop around.

He can't use the Howell ECU, it's for manual only.

first, do a manual swap...you will be happy you did...then go with underdrive pulley, and i would say get an intake...it isnt that loud.

Port the Tb a bit. Not too big.

throw a turbo out the window if you want to stay quiet... cause its recommended you get at LEAST a 2.5" exhaust to flow properly. Plus you'll have a filter there, not the stock box..... Plus, have you ever heard of a blowoff valve? I think you should do an intake, UDP, final drive gears, shift kit, and maybe a bored throttle body... thats about it for being quiet.

Just cut your muffler off that always works...

if you want a quiet exhaust that sounds alright and gives performance gains..get a GST exhaust and put it on your RS/GS..it's a good bang for the buck too. I just sold mine for 65 bucks to a someone..he says it sounds good. Get an air filter..they arent that loud..or do the free airbox mod. i mean if you dont want your car to be loud..there is really nothing to do to make your car go faster..turbo = spool..nitros = high RPMS..roars.. cold air intake = loud, sucks in air and echos in the piping.. heh..

You are just going to live with it being louder. Not race car loud but aggressive loud. Once you start moving more air threw your engine its going to be louder. The GST exhaust is a good start but your going to need cold air. When I put the header on my car the exhaust note smoothed out and canceld the higher pitched notes. Or you can go the old school Silver Bullit mopar street racer thing and run 6 Cadilac mufflers to hide your muscle:-)

well, being auto and n/a your low end is always going to pretty much suck. the final drive gears, udp and bored TB are your best next 3 mods, i would say in that order.

the only remedy i can think of would be a higher stall torque converter for a better launch off the line. thats what im waiting to do when i overhaul my tranny.

Thanks to everyone who has replied... I'm about to look into some of these mods.... hopefully I can come up with something. Turbo might be a little bit to costly now that I look at things.... unless I save little by little... we'll see. Considering leaving the engine alone until I save up $3000 to turbo.
