52735, I see lots of cheap ebay turbos. What's good? Posted by One_Rice_Racer, Jun-06-03 03:56 AM
I've decided to get working on making my car reasonably fast, so I was sitting around checking out ebay and all the reasonably cheap turbos (300-600, etc.) and I'm seeing plenty of stuff that looks nice, but I'm not sure what IS nice or not. What do I need to look for? I want a reasonable mix of power and budgeting, but I don't know what type of turbocharger to get. T25's, T28's, all these different numbers just confuse me. Or should I even worry about turbocharging just yet? This is why I need help. Note: I tried checking the "things we've seen" forum and searched a bit, to no avail.

Get a Garrett/AirResreach T3. Make sure that it's new or slightly useds or remanufactured.

No offense or anything, but had you searched in depth, you'd have read the general opinion we have of custom turbo setups: if you have to ask "how, why, what, which," you don't know enough to be building a custom turbosystem for your car, and thusly shouldn't be attempting such a project. Posts of that nature tend to be asking very generally, "What (everything) do i need to have to (anything) ?" and frankly, those that know don't have to ask.
However, since everyone has to learn, here is the way i feel about it - T25's are crap. Don't bother. 14b's are okay if you never intend to make serious power on a built motor. 16g's are good for stock motors, but also have the high HP potential to be used on a built motor running high boost. T3's are okay depending on wheel trim. T3/T4 hybrids can be really good or ho-hum, depending on wheels and A/Rs. Too many options there to get into.

slightly off topic....but nice ride bro, nothing like a clean white eclipse! I think you should save up and go with a hahn or star kit....save yourself the trouble of having to make sure you have all the parts. you know a hahn or star kit will come with everything you need for install.
