Sup guys,
I will be taking out the engine block this weekend, and I called around all the auto garage around my town, and NONE of them will do the rebuild.

My situation is this, I took of the engine, removed the head, just the block needs to rebuild. By doing all those, they save me alot of $$$ right??

So I called them, and they all said, I should instead go to a machine shop. Is that how it is???

ALso, when I go to the machine shop, and I ask them for a resurface my crankshaft, and rod... and new bearing, and some new ring...etc...
How much should that go??? I want tokonw the estimates so I won't get rip off.

Also, will the machine ship put the block back to one piece for me?

Yes you want a machine shop for this not a basic mechanic. Most of them, or a lot of them don't have the tools to do a rebbuild. There is machining involved that a mechanic would have to take somewhere. Best bet is to take it to somebody who builds and does machine work full time.

If I were you, I would seriously consider shipping the block off to VT Competition Engine Development in Lansing Michigan. They have all of the necessary equipment (state of the art machinery) to machine anything in the motor and will send it back to you fully assembled ready to be bolted back up. If you are interested, call 517-272-7728 and ask for nick. Tell him you have a 420A engine and describe your problem and what parts you want and he will give you an honest reasonable price for everything. I know that if you want all forged internals, they use the same parts as howell automotive uses (JE pistons, Eagle rods, Clevitte 77 bearings...) and they will machine your block and install everything for $1645 if I remember right. THanks guys. I really don't want to spend TOO much $$$ on this engine.
I mean, first, it's my g/f car, second, she never drive fast, and finally, third, I rather save the $$$ on my car to Stage III.

So I really have to get it done cheap.. but still in great shape of course.

ok then, why not send the engine off to get built like a tank and then drop your engine in her car, making yours stage 3 with her built block ( then it would be your built block).

I did thought about that... but then again, her block or shoud I say, her Engine is not in good shape...and my engine is in PERFECT state... if I am going to choose, I will rather use my perfect engine and use it to rebuild upon...

perfect shape as in how... have your cylinders bored over, and they will even out all the surfaces. it will basically be like a new, stronger than ever block. as long as its not cracked or holy, you should be fine.

If you havent dessided tet talk to Koffel's Place in MI or Koffel's Place 2 in Huron, Oh. The specialize in dodge engines and do the best work I've seen.

If that VT price of 1650 includes all the parts AND machining charges, then you will be VERY hard pressed to beat that price. my dad used to own his own machine shop for drag racing engines(mainly V8's) and the "normal" price around here for all the machining needed to CORRECTLY rebuild an engine(bore over, deck the block, machien the crank, blueprint/balance with the rotating assembly) is anywhere from 350-500 bucks for a 4-cylinder.
