Well I've decided to change the headgasket and figured this would be a good time to change the timing belt too. There is no Mitsu dealer around here, so I plan on going to our local Dodge dealer to pick up the parts. Before I do that, I'd like to make sure I'm getting the right parts. This is what I got so far:

Upper gasket kit - p/n: 05014135ad
Mopar gasket spray - p/n: 04318035
Timing belt tensioner - p/n: ????????
Idler pulley - p/n: ????????
Tensioner pulley/bracket - p/n: ????????

I heard the bracket doesn't really need to be changed and I could get by with just getting two Idler pulleys instead. Can someone comfirm this?

I also plan to change the water pump and of course all the belts... but I think I could get those cheaper at an auto parts store? Or if you think I should get them at Dodge Satan post the parts numbers for that too. TIA I really appreciate it.

Better than that. If you press the bearings out and measure their OD, ID and width then you can order new ones from McMaster Carr for real cheap - like somewhere in the ballpark of $5 each. I have also heard that supposedly they both look like the same thing. The thing is that the pulleys and brackets don't wear out - the bearings are the only part that takes abuse in those assemblies. We already have the part #s for the p/s belt tensioner bearing as well as the A/C bearing...but as far as I know - noone has removed and measured and figured out the part-no for the tbelt tensioner and idler bearings. I'm planning on doing this, but my pistons are 2 weeks away(just ordered them today) and I need to have the spare block machined for them so it's gonna be a few weeks before I pull my motor. Could you please at the very least mic out these measurements if you are doing it sooner than that. I think the bearings should measure out in millimeters - at least the p/s tensioner bearing did. If you get the measurements then I'll help you find the proper bearings if you need. Thanks.

2 things to make sure of bro;;;;;;;;;;;;

1. get the mopar MLS gasket (tried copper,composite,and Mr.gasket MLS all blew in a few months)

2. Do not spray it!! our gaskets leak not blow. but spraying it its like glue.. and under extream heat the glue gets weak and cracks in places making the gasket shift just a few thousands of an inch... but it enouph to leak....

I baught the Mopar MLS gasket (keep in mind new Torque specs when you get it) and even runnign higher compression than stock (10.5.1)its holding strong..... no spray niether...

you might wanna take the tensioner to dodge and have them check it for you. i know at mitsu. they will check it for free and tell you if it needs to be replaced or not. mine is still good at 113,000 miles. replace the whole tensioner pulley assembly. the problem with it is the bolt(arrow)will break. its happened to a couple of us. then your gonna end up with bent intake valves. you can get all the parts you need at www.europeanautomotive.com they are OEM parts too.

I think the idler pulley was like half that much through them... Forum really does have the best price I've found on OEM Diamler Chrysler Parts (with our discount ;-)).

Infinit - No spray? I've never heard anyone not using spray but since you've done it four times I guess it's safe to trust your judgement. I'll save $8 on it too. :P

Juggalo - Thanks for the website. I'll take a look at it and see what other parts they offer. I notice it has a timing belt kit for $72 and a note that says "T belt= MD110029 (TB167) Balance shaft belt= MD115977 (TB168) T belt tensioner= MD182537 Balance shaft tensioner= MD192068 Idler= MD156604"
Does that mean it already includes the tensioner and idler pulley? Also how can I keep that bolt from breaking, do I get a new one too?

Michael - Thanks for the info on Bob Kise... I've heard nothing but good stuff about him, however I'm kind of iffy about ordering stuff over the phone. I'd really like to buy this stuff in person or online where I can get something in writing.


I'm probably gonna head on over to Dodge tomorrow morning and see if they have the stuff in stock, however I also wanted to take a list of part numbers to double check the stuff they sell me is the stuff I'll need. If you know the part numbers for the items I mentioned above please post em! TIA.

the part number for the tensioner is on it in the pic. i think the timing belt kit is for a gst since we don't have a balance shaft. it probaly got listed wrong. if you do happen to find anything on that website they have free shipping on orders over $50

No spray.. only if you get the MLS gasket though.. if you get the composit one... spray it..

OMG! That bold would have some work done on it in it's lifetime. Well, another bolt to measure for when I take it out. Bolts usually don't cost that much either.
