alright where to begin for those who have not been up to date on this project. i have designed and created a QTB assembly that is designed to be a bolt on, "plug and play" unit to the existing lower 420a runners.
what we have here:
-four 55mm induction/42mm output throttle bodies from a 2001 GSXR 600. modified and spaced on-center to the ports on the lower runners. injector ports have been modified into vacuum ports. full original IAC control, secondary throttle adjustment, and induvidual throttle plate adjustment. MAP sensor block, vacuum line distribution block for all OEM engine operation, and oem TPS with reverse gearing for proper shaft signal. -ball bearing progressive cam throttle actuator. uses stock throttle cable actuation and turns it into a very progressive throttle to maintain driveability. it's a simply system. i designed a cam out of 1/4" aluminum plate that rides against a ball bearing atuator on the TB plate shaft. basically without confusing you, about 60% of travel in the accelerator equals about 40% of actual throttle in the QTB. 80% on the accelerator runs about 60% on the QTB, afterwards it ramps up very fast towards 100% and merges together at 100/100. -four keihin 55mm velocity stacks for ultra smooth induction. these increase lowend torque substantially. -stock 420a lower runner section. it will eventually be port matched to the head for better flow. additional vacuum ports have been drilled for other options in the future. -the adapter...the true marvel of this entire project. a few other people have created similar QTB assemblies by welding adapter plates to runners sections and simply bolting the unit on. air going from a roun thorttle body to a square port is in no way a good thing. so i decided to cast an adapter that would smmoth the transition from a round port to a square port and promote smooth airflow into the runners. i did this by using the metal gasket surface from an upper plenum section and fabricated foam internal molds for the port transitions. i then casted a special aluminum material around the entire part and the heat cured it at 200F for 16 hours. afterwards the adapter wach cooled, foam was punch out, and the adapter was machined and surface for final use. silicon couplers secure the adapter to the QTB system and provide thermal and vibration insulation from the engine.
overall this has been quite a project for me. fun is more like it. expensive yet another. the casting material alone cost close to $100 for the required 3lbs of it needed for this adapter. 90% of materials used are either stainless, anodized aluminum, or PTFE for durability and corrosion resistance. i would say total cost for this prototype is around $500 in materials.
as far as performance gains that remains to be seen. i dont get my car back for another week or so for testing purposes and i can just go tearing into my sisters car for this. i have been told a few times we're looking at a minimum gain of at least 30hp. top end will be astronomical, low end may suffer however i have kept the runner length long to help prevent that and the addition of the velocity stacks should overcome that effect completely.
i'm still debating on weather i will be selling or keeping this prototype. i'm debating that and will decide at a later date.

Justin, you'de have to make a plenum for the TB inlets. I guess a better question might be - How much clearance is there from the inlets to the hood? I can't tell if you've installed it yet...so if you could give us some installed pics that would be killer.

i did design the prototype with the a/s and e/t platforms in mind. there is a very thin airbox with two k/n filters for it that when attached to the tb's it leaves about 5mm of clearance between the hood and the top of the box.
there is an average of 280mm between the gasket surface on the lower runners to the bottm of the hood braces on both chassis. it's a close fit but does clear. doing the cowl induction hood trick....using 1" bolt spacers and longer hood bolts, and removing the rubber cowl sealing gasket leaves alot of room.
soon i'm hoping to have pics of the installed system with some sort of performance results. dyno is possible in canada, about 6 hrs north of me.

yes it will work with turbo but you'll have to make a box for it you won't be able to run it with just the stacks and filters mounted to them. It'll look a lot a regular intake manifold kinda.
woohoo there maybe some hope for all motor 2GNTs after all, if this worx put this with 12:1 pistons, nos, cams and headers and find a way to rev that sucka high and you could very well have a kick ass 2GNT.
