ha... you haven't seen a big 4 cylinder until you've seen an airplane engine. the 4 cylinder in the archer i fly has 360 cubic inches. that's about a 5.9 liter 4 banger. pretty nuts. it has a 2500 rpm redline :P

will that even fit in our cars? just reverse the head?

I don't see why it wouldn't fit, it's just a 2.4L block that's been bumped to 2.7L. All the usual pains of installing a 2.4L would come into play, but think about the power of having a 2.7L engine under your foot.
HHHHMMMMMM... I boosted 2.7L running a S25G wouldn't be bad, you could throw streetability out the window but it'd still be cool.

haha yeah, but streetability is relative:thumbsup
i'd be good with a 2.7 and super 20G

...and just as a side note, you'll get to hear about how this motor did in Howell's 2003 Neon at the Car&Driver Street Car Shootout in the August issue. Check the NEWS on the main site for more info and pics.

wow 2.7 that almost as big as the 2.8 I6 I have in my Z that's pretty crazy stuff there. How high will it rev though? There's probably more meat to move around.

You don't need as high a rev when you have that much displacement, you get more torque. There's as more displacement there per cylinder than in a Mustang, and up there with a chevy 327.
But... the engine has been fully balanced, there should be no problem revving it up to, at least, our stock red line.

Can you imagine a DSM sounding like a beefed up 5.0? Wow. Please post any relative links! This would be awesome...

second hand info, but the rod ratio supposedly sucks in the 2.7
lots more torque, but keep the revs low...

Yeah, does anybody know the bore and stroke specs on the 2.7L?

a high-revving 2.7 would be cool, but torque is good too :)
could the 2.7 be a bored the fuck out 2.4? how much can you bore a 2.4? i've read somewhere that you could make it like a 2.5/2.6 or something to that effect, but could they make a race 2.7 with thin cylinder walls, since they're only going one pass on each engine?

I don't know about all that. I just ordered my pisons a couple of days ago. I went with Blackdog cause they're runnin a 2.1L Neon - and it's not stroked. I wanted to push the bore up to make mine a 2.1L, but Clay was had a convincing argument not to go past .060 on our block. He has to change the headgasket on that motor like every week. Headbolts, headstuds...it just don't matter - he says that the headgaskets just can't hold up between the cylinders when you bore too big. I really would rather not change my headgaskets every week, so I just stuck with the .060 over. I really wanted a 2.1L too. :( Oh well - at least I'll have 10.5:1 CR }(
