i plan on hopefully going with a #14 from i beleive crane. not sure on the name atm. the turbo grind cam. would adjustable cam gears be absolutely necessary for these?

No. Cam gears let you tune for more power regardless of what kind of cams you have - but they are not nessicary.

No, the cams are manufactured to drop in and run as indexed.

If you mill a head for high compression, they may be needed to bring the motor back into time. Or if you want to fine tune to your mods, they help. Because every car is different you can squeeze a few more hp with a certain setting and somebody else gets more by soemthing else.
