COST IS NO FACTOR.
--= FWD =-- Pros: Less tire wear. Better gas mileage. Won't lose as much power as AWD. Cons: Less traction. Handling can't compare to AWD.
--= AWD =-- Pros: More traction. Better handling. Cons: More tire wear. Lose 10% more power
Tell me which one you would rather have..

that depends on what you want. if your only making 200 HP the advantage is for the FWD, but once you get into the big numbers where traction becomes a huge issue then AWD is the way to go....and thats just for straight line acceleration.
and what about RWD?

Optimum hp numbers are 350~400.

Just a quick question....how does AWD contribute to more tire wear? I'd figure since all 4 wheels were pulling, they would wear evenly.

^agreed, AWD=less tire wear. plus make enough power, AWD burnout baby:P :thumbsup ! Also, drifting! AWD is better.

Well, think about this. Why do you rotate tires? So the tires can have even wear, correct? Put the front ones in the rear, and then put the rears in the front. With AWD, all the wheels are moving, thus creating equal tire wear between the two tires. Since they are wearing out evenly, you could rotate them, but the thread life has been decreased for the rears. Umm.. yeah.. it sounds confusing, I'm not explaining it right. :-)..

i would that imagine the rear tires on AWDs would wear out quite a bit faster due to the rear leaning motion when taking off. however, that probably pales in comparison to the amount of wear the front wheels would recive a FWD vehical when accelerating (and burning out!). either way, its all in the driver. consider this though: it much easier to burn the tires on a F/RWD vehical than an AWD.

neutral handling would be great...even oversteer would be better...understeer blows. that is reason enough to choose awd or rwd. not to mention traction

front wheels will always get more wear than the rears in a fwd or awd setup.
1) They do most of the braking and have the cars weigh when braking. 2) They do the turning and the tires dragging against the ground and what not. 3)Usually in awd, the front wheels get slightly more power than the rear wheels.

you guys are all thinking awd, well what about the top end? you know that they are more sluggish up top thats another con to the list. and as for fwd, drag radials, lsd, upgraded axles, mmmmmmm......traction

or how about 1 wheel front drive? that's the way my car feels with the stock open differental. i don't understand why a car would ever come with an open differental, other than they're probably cheaper to make.
