i bought a spare intake manifold for my 8-injector setup and it looks like it came from a car on fire.. hehe.. what i can buy to clean the outside and most important the inside? it looks pretty bad on the inside..

make sure all the plastic and rubber parts are off it and spay it and rub. for the inside, you might try and soak it. when i took mine off to clean it was full of horrible stuff, i just sprayed carb cleaner in (with it off the car) and let it sit inside. rinse it out real good and throw it back on, so since yours isn't on yet, half the works done. if you can, take off the rubber/plastic and bathe it in tons of carb cleaner (sorry for the long post)

^^agreed, i used carb cleaner on my DISGUSTING throttle body (as well as a toothbrush) and it worked wonders. it took a bit of elbow grease, but after it was all done the thing looked brand new.

anyway to clean it without taking stuff off?? Kinda lazy these past few days. would rather just clean everything when it was still on the car.

the carb cleaner idea is good. i did that when i did my engine rebuild, i took everything apart might as well clean everything. do the EGR blockoff mod so that you won't ever have to clean it again.

I used two cans of throttle body and air intake cleaner from STP to clean the manifold that I've got. I'm trying to sell it now if anybody is interested.

thanks guys. how about gas? what can i use on the inside to scrub it clean etc?

just set it down so that the rubber things are pointerd up and spay it full of carb cleaner. let it sit for 5 minutes , pour it out and look at the lack of junk:thumbsup

Gasoline is the best cleaner. Block off the ends with plastic bags and pour in some gas. Shake it around, then let it sit for about 10 minutes. Repeat the process if necessary.

If gasoline is not an option (due to fire hazards), then carb cleaner is probably the best alternative. If you have a parts cleaner metal brush or hard plastic brush, use that to brush the inside of the intake manifold. Sometimes, cleaner alone won't remove the very thick, sludge inside of the manifold. Clean the TB too while you're at it. Just remove all sensors and rubber seals.

I've tried both methods, and gasoline does the job a bit quicker.
