49904, And the misfiring comes back....
Posted by DSMRoadster, Apr-26-03 10:42 PM
I got a CEL 43 again. It seems to happen when I let it rip from 1st gear strsight to 12psi and WOT. After that I would go wot and between 2-4k rpm the car would jerk and stutter. After that it's just smooth riding. I look at my spark plugs and see that plug number 1 and 2 have some oil up top. Now I'm thinking ok my spark plug gasket is bad, I'll get some new ones monday. But can some one give me the mechanics of how this happened? It's weird because besides the massive carbon build up on the gapped part and the little spec of oil where the wires meets the plugs, the other part of the spark plugs are fine. Dry and no oil around the body. Just at that tip where the wires meat them. Let's hear it.

I'm not quite clear on how oil is getting on where the wire meets the tip of the spark plug, but it doesn't touch the body of the plug. Are you talking about oil on top of the valve cover, or are you talking about oil in the spark plug well? If it's just on the valve cover then it's not the vc plug gaskets - they sit between the vc and the head where the wells are. If the wells are filling up, then yeah it's the vc plug gaskets.

ok I got a chance to play with it today. I disconnect the battery over night and went at it today. Very rough idle like it's a massive misfire party. I let it run for a few minutes and helped it by stepping on the gas. There was black smoke coming out the tail pipe everytime I did this. After about 5 miutes the black smoke deal went away when I hit the gas in neutral. But behold, a new problem. My gas is leaking from around my aux. fuel pump area. Oh joy, shitty idle, black smoke and leaking fuel. Could the leaking fuel have any affect on the car acting this way also? If it's the cam angle Mr. D, should I take of the valve cover and make sure everything is tight or get a new angle senor?

some body out there must've have this problem. I know Bedlam had a similiar one except the cause was his intake mani gasket. Lay it on me.

Well you just changed the plugs and wires a month ago right. Did you get Shuwa's coil - or a replacement? When you put the plug wires in they should 'snap' onto the plugs. Are yours snapping on? Try cleaning the plugs(with an emory cloth) and make sure that all of the wires to the plugs and the coil are on there nice and snappy.
