49472, Is this hesitation or something else??
Posted by jeffgsu, Apr-20-03 06:45 PM
My car runs fine and has no CEL's. I do have one problem though. My car is a 95 RS manual. The only mod is a short ram intake.

The problem is:
While idling, sometimes my car will just cut off. The dash lights come on (oil, battery and so on) and I have to restart it. It's like a regular stall, except I don't cause it. It usually restarts fine and has no problem. Other times this happens is while i'm driving. The only difference is that the car doesn't stay off because it's still in gear and the ignition is still on. It usually lunges for a second and I see the dash lights flash on, but they immediately go off and the car keeps going like nothing happened. I used to think this was fuel related, but now i'm leaning more towards electrical. I've noticed lately that when it happens, it's like the dash lights come on first, then the car stalls. It kinda seems like it just loses connection electrically for a split second. I've done the usual maintenance for this (fuel pump, spark plugs, wires, cleaned intake). Any ideas would be appreciated. I would love to tackle this hesitation phenomenon. I guess my question is: Is this hesitation??

thanks,
jeff

cycle your key off/on three times and check for any ECU codes. Count the blinks of the check engine light. If anything other than 55, write them down and look up the error code. If you have a short causing the prob you will prob see an error 12. You should be able to find a list of the ECU codes on here someplace... I forgot where I found them now.

Even if the cel isn't on you could still have stored codes.

I had an old Grand prix once that started doing that. I sold it some small town KS mayor's son. :P We were thinking maybe mass airflow sensor. I know exactly what you are experiencing. It's like the car chokes on something and hacks it up, then just goes on. Good luck to you my friend! ;-)
