49421, Exhaust help!!!! What Should I Do???
Posted by gjabball, Apr-20-03 08:29 AM
I got a bomex rear end and am going to put dual exhaust. I wanted to know which mufflers i should use. I am going to do all the pipeing myself. Everyone talks about how good Apex N1 is but i don't think it would work for my setup, would it rub on a Bomex bumper, or will i hae enough clearence so i could use it? I ain't tryin to melt my new bumper. If i can't use N1 what should i use, my friend likes 5 zigen, but i am not sure bout it. If anyone could help that would be great!!

The Apexi N1 is a full cat back i believe. You need 2 mufflers and I like the 5Zigen as well. Plus you probably wont melt your back bumper, the metal is pretty cool at the end of the muffler by the time the exhaust gets back there.

They sell N1, as the muffler itself, i was just wondering if anyone would know if it would work.

I have the Bomex Rear and i bought two APEX I N1 Mufflers from e bay. Together with shipping and insurance they came to 134.00 which is a deal, and then i had custom 2 1/4 inch piping from my catback, installed. and the N1 Mufflers do not rub at all, you should have enough clearence. I have enough, i was hesitent at first but i bought em and they Work GREAT!!!! Just make sure u know what ur doing as far as welding the brackets to the muffler, cause in the end if u do it right then when you tap on the muffler it should not move. If it doesnt move, then it wont rub or hit from the rattling of pressure being dispursed through them, and you will know that you have done it right! Enjoy, and have fun!

how would you go about making the custom piping? i'm thinking about doing a dual flowmaster setup. sorry, i've got to flaunt the fact that this car is DOMESTIC. where do you get the piping from, and how do you bend it? also, where do you hang the other muffler from on the other side of the car? is the undercarriage the same on the other side?

AMEN

I suggest 2.5" cfrom the cat back split and then drop to 2.25" or 2" to each muffler. I suggest Flowmaster if you like the sound, or Hooker or Dynomax, etc. Of course Borla's are great but not all that cheap. You'll want mandral bends and a good welder you are going to have to have a shop piece it together for you. And you will ave to watch out for the gas filler piping on the pasenger side, but that's about it.

cuz if it's stainless you're going to have to TIG weld it. So unless your dad is getting one of those, have them do it.
