i dont know honestly. i know they changed the ecu's in 95, 96, and 97 slightly, so i really dunno if it will work on a 99 or not, anyone else??

I herd that 95 didnt have all the emession requirements programed and then they switched it in 96 but i still dont know if it will work in a 99

i dont think it will work because the 97 AFX ecu wont work in my 99 so i dont see why a 96 would work in ur 99

nope it will not. i have tried and it doesn't. the only thing that will work in a 99 would be a 98.

Why would a 98 ecu work but not a 96?

Because they're different. it doesn't work.

95 is its own
96-97 are the same
98-99 are the same

the only differences though are which pin is what, so basically the harness is a little different

96 and 97 are not the same i dotn think. if that were true, the 96's could use that new modded ECU thats only available for the 97. 95 is diff, 96 is diff, 97 is diff, and 98-99 are the same. 96 and 97 differ slightly, the make changes to every year cept 98-99

Well what i wanted to know is this,I have a 1999 eclipse rs automatic and im doing a manual conversion and wanted to know if i can use a 96.So can i use it since its going from auto to manual and im not just replacing my automatic ecu with another automatic ecu.

no. it will not work. doesn't matter if you are auto or manual it will not work. also, if you are swapping your tranny to a manual, you'll need a manual ecu. if not, then you will still have a rev limit of 6500 rpm.

So would everything be fine if i left the automtic ecu in for now and later on put in the manual ecu? Also do they just unclip and just clip the manual one in or is their any difference in the wiring?

redline is 7k rev limiter is 72-7300....and thats not a good thing if you bounce off your rev limiter :nono
and i dont think you wanna raise it....its there for a reason unless you have an serious engine build up for hi revving. and our cars get peak power at 6800 ish, so on a stock engine, your gonna be loosing more power and killing your engine...neither of which are good things. i believe youll start floating valves at 74-75

>start floating valves at 74-75

More like 8500-9000.

well would it?

yeah it will just have lower rev limit and you will get a CEL but it will run just fine with the automatic ECU.

Will the cel turn off later on when i get a 99 eclipse 5speed ecu? Also is it as simple as unpulg and plug in the new ecu?

yes. my buddy put a 5sp ecu in his eclipse and it didn't nothing until he put it in neutral. then it revved to 7,000 rpm. but normal driving was the same. so you will have a lower rev limit and all but all will be fine.
