i just got a new valve cover and i want to know if i need to change the spark plug and vc gaskets. i heard from someone i did but i wasnt sure. any help would be appreciated

it would be a safe bet...those gaskets are infamous for their tendency to fail. It's a cheap safeguard, go for it :thumbsup

I even replaced the gaskets that go with the bolts. I put a new valve cover on so I replaced all gaskets and got some new washers for the bolts. I knew if I tried to take out the old gaskets for the bolts I'd probably cut one of them. But for sure replace the spark plug gaskets when you do the valve cover gasket. You're already there...

hey john, what are the gaskets for the bolts that you are talking about? I'm going to do my VC soon, and I wasn't aware of them. Do you have a part number and how many you need?

I did it about a year ago. Don't know the part number. Just go to the dealer and ask for:

1.) valve cover gasket (the description on the bag is something different but they'll know what you're talking about)

2.) spark plug gaskets (you'll need 4)

3.) bolt gaskets (I think you'll need 8 - count the number of bolts that hold down the valve cover)

If you're willing to do all of this it will run you about $30. You can re-use your old bolts and washers. If you're just replacing the valve cover gasket because it's leaking, like mine was, just get valve cover and spark plug gaskets.

Like I said, the reason I did all of this was because I put a new valve cover that I painted on and wanted to get all new gaskets. Send me your e-mail and I'll send you pictures what I'm talking about. btw I painted my valve cover with red automobile paint and clearcoat to match my AEM intake. I thought it would chip off after a while but it's doing fine. Hope this helps.
