48530, Need future turbo setup help (lot of questions) Posted by FlyinEsi, Apr-07-03 08:55 AM
Okay, I'm starting to look at pricing for my future turbo setup, but I have a few important questions...
If I get Stage II... I need to get a bottom end kit, can I get the 8.6:1 pistons for this stage, or do I need to stick with the 10.5:1? I just got a new stock clutch, will I go through that quickly and need a new clutch?
If I get Stage III... This comes with the bottom end kit, but what is the price for this stage from Hahn? Anybody who has bought it give me a rough estimate... Same thing with the clutch, will I burn through it in notime? What will happen if I can't find 93 Octane gas, will 91 Octane work, or will that cause problems? Can I buy the Stage II kit, the howell bottom end kit, and make my own stage III kit? Would this be cheaper?
Other: Can I get the 8.6:1 bottom end kit and run the car without a turbo on it if I need? Is there a lot of streetability with the Stage III? If I get the FMIC option, does this come with all the piping I need?
Thanks for answering all these questions...assuming I get the job i'm applying for...Stage II/III turbo date estimated: August 03

Stage II is on the stock bottom end, just with an intercooler VS. stage I with no intercooler. 8.5:1 is what most people run with built motors. 10.5:1 is higher than stock which is 9.6:1. Your clutch should last a bit, but expect it to go out.

$$5295. Clutch should be fine once again, depends on how you drive and how high you turn up da boost. Expect it to give out on ya though. You will be fine on pump gas until you get into higher boost. I am pretty sure its cheaper to buy your bottom end stuff seperately through Howell.

How do you think turbo guys break in their motors? They run them without boost. Your car will be a bit slower, but who cares because you will be boosting soon. Stage III is very streetable, it just depends on how high you are boosting. The FMIC option from Hahn will come with the necessary piping.
I emailed you some other info to your Hotmail account.

I think not many people are responding for a few reasons. For one, this should be in the turbo section. And secondly, these questions have been asked over and over for years. A search, or even a scan through the past couple pages in the turbo section will most likely come up with your answers. This is also why there is the "Things we have seen before" section. :)
