I've been looking for a nice walkthru of removing the 420a (since i plan to begin the project this weekend), but all I can find is the VFAQs for the 4G63 and 1G eclipse. So does anyone know where i can get an engine removal walkthru for the 2GNT? PLEASE HELP!! I plan on starting this sometime today and i know i'll have questions.

I wish someone would make one too. I wanna pull my shit out someday.

I started yankin stuff out yesterday. I hope someone can tell me where all those plugs and sensors go? This is going to be fun. Wish me luck... I'm gonna need it.

At the very least you should grab a CHiltons at Autozone or whatever! They show you step by step. And maybe grab some ziplock bags and a marker to label what bolts came from where! Wow. Remember, you didn't do it right unless you have parts left over! :P

so you removed sensors ? and you want us to tell you where it goes after you pulled it out?
if so you should have tag them up before pulling them, it takes time at 1st, but later on you will wish you had tag them from the start..

Hmm.. well i'm gonna try to go back and label a few things if i can, but still I think it would be nice to have it all wrote down. I have a Chiltons, but it's garbage. There's nothing as far as removing the motor. I have the 420a Engine Overhaul PDF too, but once again, it's missing all the info I need (like removal procedures... what to actually remove.. ie. halfshafts, transaxle, etc... sensor locations, you get the idea.) Most of these things focus on engine teardown/rebuild. Is there anyone out there who has done this that is willing to do a writeup? I would be more than willing to help if I could.

drain all fluids
disconnect all sensors/harnesses
remove power steering and AC from engine but don't remove hoses if you can get around it..
remove radiator
remove header/intake
take off battery tray
undo clutch lines
remove shift linkage (i thought this was the biggest pain of all)
remove heater hoses
don't know if you have to remove alternator, i did but i dropped the engine back in with it on.

remove axels (see corbins page on how to do that)
remove motor mounts and pull engine out w/ tranny attached.

i probably missed stuff, but its not hard to do and should have marked the sensors when you took them off.

Don't worry about the wiring harness. Each one will only go on one sensor. They are all different. Just make sure you mark all of the bolts and nuts so you don't have any "extra" parts when you put it back together ;) I didn't do this either time and had to get a couple new bolts for stuff.

alright.. thanks a lot guys... i have everything but the axles and motor mounts done so far. Next nice day i have free i'll do the rest. I turned all the bolts back in whatever they came out of so i don't lose track of them.

Do you recommended removing the center member? I was thinking that might let the transaxle drop a lil lower and allow the motor move room, any suggestions on that?

A prybar (and hammer to tap the prybar) works wonders at removing the brass clips to take the shift linkage off.

its pretty straight forward if you've pulled an engine from a car b4. check out armonds site it has some info www.armond30.com at least info on how to take the axles and stuff out. and yes you should tag every wire you yank out with like piece of masking tape and write what it is. All the connectors are different anyway so you can't mix em up.
