48346, Rough Idle??? just did 60k service and AFX UDP

Well I just got on a new tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, and waterpump, and AFX UDP. The idle is very very rough. and you hear my exhaust and engine shuddering. And from what I found out by searching is that maybe the exhaust cam might have not been lined up at the mark, but we got a ruler and lined them up perfectly, so I dont think thats it. I looked at the Throttle body and it seems fine, its closed all the way. Tho my friend who helped me put on the udp said that when we were done when i started up my car, that I have an exhaust leak, cuz you could hear it. So would any of these matters matter? He told me just to get new exhaust gaskets and i'll be fine. What else could I do? Also is the idle rpm suppose to be at 900?

sounds like your timing is off, most likely the t-belt wasnt lined up correctly with the timing marks. You have to have the cam marks in line, while the mark on the crank gear is in line with the mark on the block. After you set the t-belt tension(20 ft lbs on the tensioner pulley), rotate the crank gear two times, and line up the marks again. The cam gear marks should be in line. If not, then redo it. I guarentee you your timing is off.

Hey, so your friend did come down! Kewl, glad U got it all... U drill the hole in your frame? Love it, just make sure 2 primer it ;) I will 2nd that your timing is definately off, no question! It took me 2x of tearing it all apart & putting it back 2gether 2 get it right, so wouldn't B suprised @ all.

1st time I didn't replace my water pump since it was Bhind the timing belt cover, 2 much work... 2nd time I did do them all. U find the harmonic pulley puller ok?

Oh the joy of timing belts :rolleyes ,

I agree that it's the timing. My car has been doing the same thing since we changed the timing belt. We lined up the lines, but never re-checked them after turnig the engine. I've been living with the bad Idle for the past 10k miles. Between college and work I don't have time do do it again.

Man that sucks, so its my timing? I know we DID line up the mark on the block and the one on the crank pulley, but I think we might have turned it again later and didnt recheck it, dang! Do you think I could have got an exhaust leak just by lifting up the engine a lil bit to do these mods? Cuz i didnt have one before we started? Would an exhaust leak even cause it to shrudder?

So in order to redo my timing, I have to do everything OVER? will i have to remove the UDP? cuz that would be an ass to I dont have the pulley for it. What will I have to do?

The UDP has to come off to get the timing belt cover off. Unless you wannt just rip it off, but that is not advised :nono

Yep pulley has to come off again, and it has too, because the tensioner plunger bolts are behind it, and you need to loosen that in order to reset timng and belt tension.
