Just wondering what everyone used -- also -- how severe of an issue would it be if a few shavings made their way in? I mean if you are using a dremel they would be pretty small right?? Small enough to just burn up inside i would imagine.

a thick cloth should do the job. after you get it all done to your satisfaction, id put a vacuum cleaner in the throttlebody inlet to suck out shavings, then remove the cloth. vacuum more if needed (to be safe) hope that helps

didn't mean to steal the thread, but what bit do u guys use? Could i use a cylinder hone and a drill to bore out the throttle body opening?

Unfortunately don't have a vacuum cleaner that is battery powered -- doing this work in the driveway of my apartment -- can't get electricity down there -- i'll have to use tape balled up to just pick up like lint all the left over shavings that i can't sweep out with my a cloth etc..

Thanks... as far as what bit to use -- i am gonna use a cone shaped one -- that way i can avoid getting to close to the wall further back of the opening.

Take the manifold off. Doing it on the car is lunacy. Metal shavings in your motor is BAD.

take it off. its so easy and you don't have to worry about it. also you can clean out all the nasty crap while your at it without filling the engine with carb cleaner. just put the front on ramps, and take out the 5? bolts. disconeect the top stuff and its out. worth the time to do it right. takes 15 minutes

Why would you spend 225.00 for a nice new 60mm billet TB and mount it to a 52mm or 55mm intake opening??????

You don't have to bore your TB just because you ported your manifold, nor do you have port your manifold just b/c you got a bored TB.... but the two working together is real nice. Esp. if you have them gasket matched. And yeah ... like these guys ^^^ said, take it off!!

Well, I only paid $70 for mine...But I really don't have a good reason as to why I never did it. :rolleyes I guess I got good gains from it, and it just didn't seem as important as the next project - 8 injectors. }( I've got another manifold that I'm modifying for a second rail. I just finished p&p'ing it and I definately plan to port match my TB to it as well. I just REALLY need to finish this fuel system. ;(

EDIT: Just looking back at this - I guess I took his question a bit literally. You really don't HAVE to do it, but like Chris and Techboy said - it would be nice.
