Well the time has come to buy a new intake. I like AEM, I realize it is probably wasting a few bucks but I like the fitment and the functionality. I am open to suggestions though. I am buying Monday, so you have that long to convince me of something.

i hope you're kidding:nono from what i've read, the injen race series cai (something like that) has proven it's functionality very well. but aem v1 would be fine but v2 would be ok, since money is no object.

Thanks clay, I found your pics a few minutes ago when I searched. The last time I tried looking for them they weren't working.

Right now I am swaying towards the v2. My girlfriend thinks its "pretty" so thats a bonus too lol... Ive looked at the Injens but in all honesty I just don't like them. Ive had two ebay intakes break now, both at the same place so I am done buying them. I just hate spending money on something that gives minimal power at best.

Why don't you like the Injens? just curious I thought about buying one but I still can't decide between it and the AEM or OBX

Im just not into the chrome look. I realize the v2 is shiny but its different, more of a metal look as opposed to a chrome plated look of the Injen. Just personal preference I suppose.

I think the injenis a full 3" (if that means anything to you at all) again, I think, but isnt it also just a very short ram w/ a heat shield? Well thats nt a REAL cold air intake so I would go w/ the v2 but maybe thats just cuz my girlfriend says its prettier too :thumbsup

since money is no object- I'd go with the HRC intake. :) If money was no object, that's what I'd do. :7

If it were me, I would probably just buy a used AEM. Since you say that money doesn't matter, you might as well get the V2. Even though I'm not convinced that it is any better than the original. In the end it is your money, so...

Well I DID buy a used AEM... I ended up getting a POS intake that had been hacked up by the previous owner. I can't even use it as a full CAI its been hacked up so much.

I would go with an AEM either version 1 or 2, I used to have an Ingen CAI but I did not like the way it bolts to the valve cover (I wonder what Ingen was thinking when they designed it) Anyway I just think its not a good idea having it connected to something as hot as the engine. From what I have seen and experienced, AEM connects to a part of the engine that makes more sense in order not to transfer so much heat.

I personally like my AEM short ram (with INJEN heat shield}( ). Sounds great, good power increase and no chance of getting it wet. Plus it was CHEAP!!!!:thumbsup

anyway, i voted for the v1. look at the dynoes of both. the differences you get w/ the v2 arent worth the extra coin. the v1 looks tight, and fits great!

i agree. the dyno charts someone had seemed to indicate the V1 is not any less formidable and even may be superior. and heck, its cheaper.

Will the V2 even fit all models of our car? I heard that they only fit the '97 MTX version, read that on DSMTalk. I know it won't fit a auto tranny, something about clearance of the tranny. I have a AEM CAI v1 and love it, I really doubt the V2 is worth the extra money. My votes goes for the CAI V1 :P

my pos aem intake broke at the hanger connecting to the valve cover and the battery tie down bore a dime sized hole in the side of it. I wont ever buy another aem product.

my aem cai has been on my car for 3 years now. No problems with the battery...there is nothing connecting it to the valve cover...the only problem i did have was the rubber on the K&N filter started cracking. nothing a little black tape couldnt fix. BTW i drive my car every day (snow and rain and no bypass valve) and have put about 35000 miles on it with the aem installed.
summary: aem cai v1 gets my vote

here is the AEM dyno comparison I made lightblue and orange are V1, blue and red are V2. V2 is superior in some parts in regards to smoothness of the power gain (wider gains and less peaks), and V1 is superior in some parts regarding peak power and top end.



I think the Injens are good too. Plastic does not transfer heat so that's a plus. Plus it's tapered on the throttle body side allowing for speeding up of the air flow, and in terms of fluid dynamics that's the best case scenario.

If money's no object, V2.

Ok, well thanks for the input fellas. I am going to order my v2 monday morning. I honestly don't know why I am spending the extra money on it, just to say I have one I suppose.

Uhm....isn't that like 10% of what a turbo kit would cost? Just a thought.

I voted for the V2, but what about an Iceman intake? Ever consider? I got one and love it.
