Modern Performance 60MM TB REVIEW:

WOO HOO!!! YABBA DABBA DOO!!!! YEEE HAWWWWWWWW!!!!!! HUBBA HUBBA!!!!YIPPEEE!!!!! WE'RE GOING BALISTIC, MAV!" YIPPEE KIYAY, MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!! HOT DAMN!!!!! "WOAH, I GOTSTA GET ME WUNNU DEESE!!!!

I dont know why everyone is having issues with the plate not opening all the way, and the high idle, but my shit is good to go. Plate is horizontal at WOT, and idle is same as it was before.
I definatly feel a BIG difference, with a lot more pull thru 1st, 2nd, & 3rd (thats all ive got to so far). Sounds a bit louder also, but that could just be me.
Once i got my manifold repaired from my "little shaving accident" and finished porting it out to as close to 60mm (more like 59 1/2mm) as i could, i am VERY happy with this TB. Modern Performance did good!!!!!

Dont buy this TB if your not gonna port your intake manifold opening, it would be counter productive!
If you do port you manifold opening, BE CAREFUL not to do what i did by blowing threw the side to get the 60mm. You CANNOT get a full 60mm out of the opening unless you add material to it like i did in the pic.

Anyway, hers the final result, not all that pretty but certainly not bad either...

Tim -- it looks like you punched through a little bit further back -- could those who bore out their manifolds just focus on the initial opening and smooth out a little further back?

yea, i did blow thru down by the bolt hole on the bottom. for 35.00 a welding shop fixed/added about 1/8in. of aluminum weld so i could continue to bore it out further. in stock form you cant bore much past say 57 mm on the L side (as you look INTO the opening) of the intake mani or else you blow thru. you have some more room on the R side, but you kinda (in my opinion) shoot your self in the foot if you spend the 225.00 for the TB and dont bore it out to the full 60mm. you might as well go for a 55mm or 57mm TB cause you wont get the full benefit of the extra few MM's from the 60mm if you dont open it up more to meet it.

If you think about our stock TB, how it gets narrower in the middle and wider at the ends, well when its bored out by say AFX, all they are doing is taking out the middle part. So if you put on a 60mm TB with part or all of your mani opening smaller than that, then essentialy all you really have is a bigger "stock" TB around 57mm ish.

Anybody have any other thoughts about 60mm TB without having close to that for the mani opening?

I would suggest you get a nice couple of aluminum beads welded to the L side so you can open it up more, It doesn't really look all that bad, and you could clean it up even more to where it wasent readily noticable. You will appreicate the differences if you do.

is your port more to the R side or is it straight thru, in-line with the TB passage? Is it 60mm all the way thru or does it bevel inward? id be curious how you did it. I bought this manifold already ported a bit, so maybe from stock to 60mm you ported a bit more to one side than me.
anyway, im glad you didnt run into my problem, my heart stopped for a minute :)

Wow, I just installed mine last night took about 1 1/2 hours, after that I started her up and my RPMS were at normal 700-800. The car now defiantly feels lighter on take off hehe maybe its the faster throttle response, although I did notice a slight hiss in between shifts which I thought might have been the intake just being louder, either that or maybe the gasket and silicon might not have sealed properly even though I gave it all night to settle. As soon as I jumped on the freeway I took the car up to cruising speed I noticed that I was finding myself tailing most of the other cars with my car now breathing better, one thing that started to annoy me was every time I had to slow the car down by letting off of the throttle my car jerked back harder than before.

Once I got off of the freeway and slowed to a stop, my RPMS jumped to 2500K and settled to 2000K all the way to work at every stop light, heck I had everyone thinking that I wanted to race them or something with all my revving. Well I'm thinking now that I probably have a leak on the gasket seal, I'm going to take the TB off and re- apply some more goo (non-hardening silicon) Hey Tim how much silicon did you use? I thought I put on plenty on both sides of the gasket :( oh well back to getting dirty.

i used a real thin coat on both sides of gasket, just enought to smooth over with my finger.
