ecu raises ur rev limiter to i think 8200, i myself have never gone over 7k. some things u might want to change if u do plan on making some frequent trips over 7k are upgrades lifters, rockers, and valve springs.

I had cams tha made power past 7200 and after MANY repeated trips to 7200 rpms I only broke 2 stock rockers. The stock Valvesprings tend to float past 7200 so if you are going to rev it to 8200 (DO IT) then upgrade the valvesprings so the valves don't get to meet the pistons.
The reason people say to do the whole top end is because if you are going to pay the labor to do one thing, you may as well do it all cause it will cost you less.
Get good cams, cam gears, PT or Blackdog rockers and lifters, Crane valve springs and titanium retainers and do the timing belt service. If you want to since it's all apart, get a 3 or 5 angle valve job, get the head ported a little bit and put in 1 mm oversized valves.

I talked to armond and he said that just upgrading lifters and rockers should be good for 7800 rpm for short periods of time. But now you're saying valve springs too and i'm all confused. x(

The valvesprings are designed to control to 7200 rpm so past that and they can't shut the valves fast enough. Crane has some available for us and CNNP used to have double valvesprings that we could use.

yes you must replace the valvesprings, OEM sucks

Crane also makes a good set of valve springs for us that use the stock install height. I have em on my car and I have 0 complaints.

Do any of you guys have practical experience with running the engine to 7800 or is this just hearsay?

Ever read the neon boards? Remember they have had the AFX ECU with an 8200 redline for a few years.

So in this specific case just hearsay then.

Heresay from the neons as well as seen the pics of the broken valvesprings. I was looking for some of the older posts that I had seen over there but can't find it right now.

Nor can I. I searched neons.org. I only see the same type of passed info where people state they you need valve springs. The problem is I recall before they were ever available that people seemed to rev to 7800rpm just fine in their neons and never considered them a problem. It seems a few people have broken theirs, but not because of rev related issues, and all of a sudden everyone needs new valvesprings for every reason imaginable. This is what I call hearsay.
I will let you know if I ever break mine personally as I only upgraded the rockers/lash adjusters to the PT stuff. Everything else in my head is still stock mopar parts. I have the AFX ecu with the 7800rpm redline. If I break something, then I am proven wrong. I am not an expert by any means on what they can handle, but I suspect I will be fine with my aggressive street driving that my car will maintain. Upgrading valve springs is not a bad thing, but I am not convinced yet it is a necessary thing. If I were racing it heavily then I would consider different.

I think the valve springs themselfs are a pretty strong piece capable of handling the 8200rpm fine, but like any stock piece not if you always rev to 8200 rpm. But at that point you'll be breaking other stuff too probably.
The reasons I see to upgrade, titanium retainers would be nice for lowered valvetrain mass. The other reason being if you are running obscene cams then the stockers won't compress enough to get the lift of the cams.
Beyond that they would be nice, but I haven't seen any proof on stock or mild cams that it is necessary. Because I don't ever remember hearing about valve springs breaking due to increased revs, just rockers and lifters.

Sorry if this is an old question, but how is the ecu with the 8200 redline and is it only made for the 97 or can i put it on my 99 rs. Also, would it benefit me if i have a turbo setup and buy this ecu.
