I have a bolt on my exhaust manifold that is just spinning and spinning when i go to tighten it. I am assuming the head where the bolt screws in is stripped out. I have heard about helicoiling it but I have never even seen how it is done. Can someone give me some info on the topic? Do I need to get a certain sized helicoil kit or something? Thanks. I also plan on using studs this time so it wont happen again.

You'll have to get the right size helicoil. Basically, you drill the hole out larger to accomodate the coil, then the coil screws in. I think some of them (if not all) have a handle built in that you snap off when you get it in all the way. It's just a sleeve that is threaded for your bolt that you install in the hole so the bolt/stud you need will tighten up. Good luck. :thumbsup

the helicoil doesnt just slide into the hole....Once you drill out the threading to the proper size (depending on helicoil size), you then must tap the new hole with a helicoil tap....Then you screw in the helicoil with the tool and your all set....the whole point of a helicoil is to allow you to use the same bolt again for the hole and not to simply make the hole bigger for a new bolt....You can just drill it out and tap it to a larger bolt size if you want to do that....
