anyone have a dyno of the gains on a non turbo eclipse running an Apexi S-AFC? I think they look pretty cool and if they perfom well then i will get one. $290 is a good price.

Ask Chad, he bought mine. I don't see how it can hurt, but for $290 the HP to cost percent isn't all that great.

I actually have yet to hook mine up..... I keep spending the money i save up for gauges...hehe

I wonder if anyone has tried to install a S-afc on a nonturbo car with larger injectors. You could lean the injectors out where your fuel trims are more aligned with stock and you would have a nice timing advance as a result.

30LB injectors might work out pretty good for this application.

Just thinking out loud! Any comments from someone that has done this? And datalogged the results.

I thought thura got 8hp just from tuning with the safc.

Mine crapped out on me causing all sorts of problems (after 3 months or so), causing my tranny to go into limp mode from wacky TPS voltages.

def get the newest version if you can, and go to a dyno with a wideband o2 and get it tuned properly, if you dont its basically a waste of money sitting in your car. You can try with the blue wire mod but thats only for like 4000-up at WOT, you can do any other tuning correctly without the wideband

Definately worth it. Our cars are pig rich when you start adding mods. The cams especially with the 55mm TB and P&P manifold, ECU just wants to dump the fuel in.

pig rich is right....i'm getting .98 readings at WOT now...:( need to get an AFC

I saw a decent improvement in the 1/4 mile with the SAFC tuned, about a 0.13 sec improvement.

Our cars run too rich at WOT in the upper RPM range. This is to make sure nothing breaks (less chance of leaning out or detonation). Try to get the car so it is running at 12.7 to 1 air/fuel ratio at WOT and you'll be right there.

But, be careful, te car will run richer in low gear and leaner in high gear, due to there being more load on an engine in higher gears. So you will have to tune for the highest gear you will use which will be 3rd gear for me (since I never get out of 3rd at the drag strip) and 4th gear if you race on the street (I never race on the street, so it is tuned for 3rd. Oh, don't worry about 5th gear, we don't have enough power in NT form to get close to redline in 5th)

You'll be running a bit richer than you'd want in 1st and 2nd, but it's no big deal, you typically don't spend enough time there where it is a problem (at least when drag racing).

The blue wire mod, it is done so you can display the O2 sensor voltage on the SAFC. Some turbo DSMers thought of it a while ago, even though the SAFC is not designed to read it. Basically you are wiring your O2 sensor singal into the blue wire that is used by a supra (or someother high end japanese car) for it's second mass air sensor.

Some people say the blue wire mod works just fine, some say it causes the SAFC to behave "differently". I had it done for a little while, but took it off because I though it was causing my check engine light (actually, a bad connection from the SAFC to the computer was causing it, my own fault).

But, having the "blue wire mod" is a hassle because switching to the "sensor voltage check" screen to see what your O2 sensor is doing is a pain. Also, you can't log the data and it's hard to quickly glance at it and see what the voltage number is unless you stare at the sensor instead of the road, so it is not too useful when driving around anyway unless someone else is in the car looking at it.

I wouldn't bother doing it, there are far better ways to see your O2 voltage (and A/F meter or simply logging it with a palm pilot and pocketlogger software)

As for the new SAFC, I don't know anyone who has one yet, but soon I'm sure some turbo DSMers I know will have one and I'll be able to check it out.
