46888, MSD Ignition Coil Posted by Kahn, Mar-17-03 04:46 AM
Okay -- correct me if I am wrong -- don't have access to the car right now..but the plug for our ignition coils is on the right when you are looking into the engine from the front. Why would MSD stamp their logo on the back of the coil then... does anyone have the MSD ignition coil -- can you confirm I got the right part... thanks.

cause it was made for the neons who's head is backwards there are 2 part numbers for the coil pack one for the round plug one for the square plug, if your plug fits you got the right one. But yes the logo is backwards because of it being designed for the neon.

Actually, the coil differences are due to the year changes from 95-96 to 97+.
I have an extra 95 coil sitting in my garage for an eclipse. It's due to year changes, not car differences.

Say just to make sure it is safe to put this thing on and not have the cylinders firing in reverse order here -- this is the right part?? it says PN 8229 -- this is correct for a 1995 eclipse??

I did post the correct number a shorttime ago, but if memory serves it's 8229 for 95-96 and 8239 for 97-99...
yes you are safe to put it on. The only difference is plug style, so if you order the wrong one you will need to change the wiring harness plug or exchange the coil pack.

You willing to part with that extra coil?

Has anyone spliced into the wires to make them long enough to connect to the other side so the MSN logo can face the front of the car?

47005, Can't do that Posted by Kahn, Mar-18-03 05:17 PM
Remember the towers for the spark plugs -- will then have to be extended as well -- otherwise you are firing in reverse order...if you really wanted you could just buy an MSD sticker somewhere. Good thought though.

that would be the definition of rice.

47068, RE: Hold on here Posted by djtrickee, Mar-19-03 01:28 PM
What is rice? I dont understand your post. Buying a replacement/aftermarket coil is rice? huh? Or getting a sticker from MSD to identify the product which MSD actually already does (its just on the wrong side of the coil)? Confused, Chris b.

haha not the actual coil....or the sticker for that matter.....but rewiring so that you can turn it around for the sticker to be in the front is definitly rice.

I see what you were saying now. But, I still disagree about the Rice comment. It seems weird to have an aftermarket product put on your car that is obviously the wrong direction with the MSD in the back. Like they were too lazy to make an actual one for our cars. I think he was saying he would like to do what we all do, modd it so that it looked good under the hood. Hey that rhymes... heeh -chris b.

it fits our cars....just fine i might add....its just the sticker is on the wrong way......and having a sticker on the coil doesnt make your car look any better......i think its totally rice to rewire the damn thing to put the sticker on the front.......thats the same as chrome wheel covers and tinting your own windows when you dont know whatyour doing so that its filled with bubbles....or putting a nos sticker on your car without nos or painting the windshield wipers blue on a green car etc. etc.

Wow! I had no fucking clue how lame I was. :rolleyes Oh well, even if I don't get the MSD, I guess I'm a ricer anyway for painting my stock coilpack huh? Can anyone tell me where I can get some new altezza's? It's official guys..........I'm Dirty Rice! :-)
What the fuck is ^^^^^^ talking about?

Everyone has their own definition of the word "rice". I think it is an overused and abused term. I think that having the Coil pack facing the proper direction as you would expect wouldnt be rice at all. Why wouldnt you want it to be facing the right way? I would. Now if you bought an OEM HONDA coil pack, painted it red, and put a MSD sticker on, and then hot-wired it into your car, that I might consider a little ghetto, or ricey.

Muahahahaha...
Everything is rice. I am a riceboy for putting a GS-T muffler on my car. I must be trying to trick people into thinking that I have a GS-T. Or what about that ricey snail thingie that sits on my exhaust manifold. Whatever. :rolleyes -=B-=

Buwahahaaahaaaaa
On the drive to the shootout 2 years ago, with my GS-T muffler some of the guys though I switched to the RS spoiler and RS badging to fool people and look like a sleeper, nope I popped the hood and all 420A hehee. Because I'm sure my 16.3 run didn't spell it out later :P... of course I did beat an auto GS-X on the track.
