Hey all,

My stock heat shield is cracked down the center and rattles on startup and when I don't launch very high (i'm MT) So I was wonderin: Are there any decent aftermarket heat shielding products for something as hot as headers? Are some better than others? Is it that important to have the heat shield on? (I've read that it helps alot, but I see that alot of people on here removed them)

Ask around or post in the wanted or for sale section. Like you mentioned people take them off all the time. It is necessary if you ask me to keep heat off hoses and stuff. Keep in mind though if you wish to make your own that Steel would be a much better material then say aluminum or other light , very conductive alloys( heat). And yes Iron or steel with a higher carbin content is better the stainless etc. I wish I could have some heat shields...my fan melted and an ac hose burst. its not fun when a radiator fan cuts into your radiator and the ac freon maks a 15 ft jet of steam shoot out your engine bay. :nono

I appreciate it....I also saw in a mag somewhere what looked like asbestos wraps around each individual pipe in the headers...Does anyone know anythign about this? How in the world would you keep it attached?

I like the idea of the header wrap, but I heard somewhere that it voids warranties on aftermarket headers and that they (the headers) retain so much heat that they can crack prematurely. Is this right? Living in Phoenix I'm concerned about lowering engine temps to preserve this sucka. Thanks! Laetra!
