46720, Well I'm thinking about a rebuild..... Posted by CopperEclipse96, Mar-14-03 12:07 PM
Well I am about 99% sure that I have a blown head gasket, and I am leaning towards just doing a rebuild. To the people who HAVE done a rebuild themselves, how hard was it, and how much experience do you have. I would like to tackle this myslelf, but I'm a litlle unsure. Also, what would be te reccomendation? I was thinking I would most likely go with a rebuild kit, but the howell 2.2L stroker would be nice. A 2.4L would probably beeven nicer. I do plan on going turbo still, but it might have to wait. Does howell's stroker work well with turbo? Aso, how much boost could I run with a built engine? Thanks in advance. Hopefully I can get his compression check done tomorrow.

i haven't done a rebuild yet, but eventually when i do, i will do it myself. just know what you're doing, and take your time. it's really just knowing how to take everything apart, and put it back together. if your cylinder walls are in good condition then you don't even need to get them machined, just honed which you can also do yourself. you have to get the rotating assembly balanced, and then carefully assemble the internals to specs. that's the most critical part. taking apart the engine is almost fool proof. just make sure you carefully label everything so you don't go nuts reassembling it.
