Alright guys, I'm stumped here. I have been through 3 alternator belts in the last month and have no clue what could be wrong. Do any of you guys know what could possibly be wrong? Thanx

has a lot to do with tension. if its too tight or too loose you could ruin your belt.....

make sure your crank pulley is tight also. if the bolt isn't tight enough the pulley with have a little bit of movement and throw/shredd the belt

as for tightness, you want about 1/2 to 1" of deflection
deflection means, put your finger on the belt, at its longest point/stretch (not relative for alt, but if you have a p/s a/c belt, it is...) and pull push on it, it should only move that much....

no more, no less (too loose, too tight) respectively

alright, my car is haunted or hates me. I just had my 3rd alternator belt put in yesterday night and it came off AGAIN tonight. I noticed some wear on the sides of the belt like it might be rubbing but i have no idea where it could be rubbing against. I really need your help now otherwise my father is making me take it to satan to have it looked at. Thanx for the input.

try to eye the line up of the pulleys, (alt and crank pulley) to see if they are parallel...

also, since the alt belt is 4 ribbd, u may wanna try a 3 ribbed belt, if they make em...

good luck bro... i would also check to see if your alt pulley spins straight (not wobbley)....

I was having the same problem with my alt. belt! The belt broke twice and flipped like 3 time in a period of 2 weeks. What it was is a broken alt. bracket which was causing the alt to jump in turn making the belt flip and break! Some of the parts were on warrantee and some weren't, paid about $150 to have it fixed! Check it out if nothing else works for ya!

theres definetly somthing wobbling around from what youve described.

look at the belt while the car is running. if the belt seems to vibrate a lot, you have it nailed. its either a loose alternator pully/bracket or a loose crankshaft pully (although you would probably be throwing p/s belts if that were the case).

Alright guys, i called up satan and asked them how much it would cost to replace the alternator bracket. The quoted me $135-150 for the repair. Is that too much or can i do it myself? I really can't afford too much down time because this is my daily driver. Thanx for the input everyone.
