46407, Rear Oxygen Sensor??
Posted by Smoke Honda, Mar-10-03 07:18 PM
I got my car back from the mechanic yesterday. I've had a spun rod bearing and had a swap for a used motor(came from the mechanic). when i arrived to pick up the car there was alot smoke coming out of the exhuast, the RPM it the car was fluddering, and the motor sounded really harsh and shaken. The mechanic said that the car had oil in the exhuast becuase of the spun rod bearing and the smoke would go away in a day or two. He said the car was it was idling hard because i had a bad oxygen sensor. Well, skip to today. The car have massive smoke coming out of the exhaust, somehow lossed alot of power and felt super weak. The RPM got really really harsh, jumping from 1500 and down to about 250 - 300. This happens not only at idle but ALL power bands. And it got to the point that tonight, while backing up, the oil light came on and the car completely. All this happened with only 40 miles on the new used engine. I know this can't be all because of a sensor. What should I say when i come back tommorrow. -Thanks

Tell him to check the compression. He might also want to check the oil pan for parts. I can't say for sure, but it sounds like you got a bad motor.

Did you screw up the crank so bad with the spun bearing that it was unusable? It couldn't be ground down for oversize bearings?

the rear oxygen has one purpose and one purpose only......monitoring the efficiency of the catyletic converter. the only o2 sensor that has anything to do with affecting the engine is the upstream one and that dosent sound like an o2 sensor prob at all...

if that is the only function of the rear sensor then would it be ok to eliminated it with an o2 simulator cause my check engine light is on from it because i have a high flow cat, sorry not trying to steal the thread

If your o2 sensor is intact, then you should be able to just put a resistor inline to get rid of the CEL. http://www2.cesa12.k12.wi.us/brent/personal/neon/pic/cat_resistor.html

If it's physically broken(like mine - which snapped in half), then you have to get an eliminator. Got mine from Caspers. http://www.casperselectronics.com/cgi-local/store/commerce.cgi?product=IMPORTS

sounds like that motor is a gonner....Was it a rebuilt one? It sounds like some of the piston rings are fucked or werent installed right/broken in right....The car shouldnt be smoking at all, even if you removed both of the 02 sensors completly. It definitly sounds to me like you have bad rings or maybe the HG isnt on right allowing oil into the combustion chambers or maybe the valve seals are screwed somehow.

The thing is, he put in another motor, not the one with a spun rod bearing. He said that there's a six months warrenty tho. but, i don't want to go back there every other day if it's a bad motor. what should i do???

Its good that you got the warranty. Use it. Take it back and tell that guy that you want a good motor not a bad one. See what he has to say.

well...i brought it back today, and the guy had like no clue of what happened. he tried to say that my motor shut's off because of my sensor. and then he said that the oil and check engine CEL lights ONLY will come on when I try to turn it back on, and it was my "misconception" becuase i saw the light "after" the motor shut and i was "hectic" when turning the motor back on. basically calling ME a moron. then i told him that he's the one who got it wrong, that i'm an aircraft mechanic, and that he should test the car out cuz' i don't make that kind of mistake. so this asshole tests it out around the block (he punched the gas like a bitch)...nothing happened...and then we tested it on the highway (he's drive like 100mph)....nothing happended...i was like WTF??!!. THEN on the way back to the shop he went into a small street and was blocking a car and had to reverse, HAHA that was then the car's PRM starts shuddering and the car completely shuts off. right away i pointed at the CEL lights. and he was like "yea ok, fine" and then he drives for like 4 feet and the motor shuts off again, and again, and again. we were like 50 feet from the shop and causing all kinds of traffic. he's now "hectic" mood and trying to get the car back ASAP. I added, stop FUCKING AROUND, you're ruining my car! And said i'll drive it back. you can just walk. when we got back to the shop he finally, he said to me that all the mechanics (3 of them) will start working on the car right now and it'll be done tommmorrow. ok, if it doesn't start working tommorrow then what???? :wary Thanks!!

if u have the warranty then they have to fix it...make sure they fix it...If they dont, tell them you will make a formal complaint to the state and then take it from there.
