Just wondering what you guys that assembled our motors used on the bedplate to block for sealant. The FSM says Loctite 19614 or equivilant. I checked out Napa, and they dont have that #. I even searched Loctite's website, and still didnt fint it. Can anyone shed some light here?? I know it has to be an Anerobic sealant, and saw some at Napa, but I didnt know if it was the right stuff. Also, did any of you use any kind of sealer on the coolant freeze plugs, or the oil galley freeze plugs? Thanks for any info!

Go to your local Dodge Parts Center and ask for MOPAR ANEROBIC GASKET MAKER. It's red and comes in a pink tube. It's a torque-cure formula. You can use this on the oil pump too. ~$13.00

Also while you're there, pick up a tube of MOPAR ATF-RTV. It's black and is in a white tube. It repels fluids such as oils, fluids, ATF, water and fuel. Use this just about everywhere else. Oil pan, valve cover, corner cam bearing, camshaft position sensor, dipstick-to-block joint, thermostat housing, transmissions, etc...

Then go to your favorite auto parts store and get a tube of blue loctight 242, a tube of loctite thread sealant, and a can of Permatex (sp?) copper gasket spray. Use the loctight 242 on flywheel bolts and such. Use loctite thread sealant on fuel fittings, water lines, oil lines, plumbing, etc. The copper gasket spray works well to help gaskets maintain a tight seal. It also resists rust and can be used on manifolds, turbine housings, downpipes, flanges, etc. After a few hours of driving, the heat causes the copper coating to turn dark dark brown... almost black. It will stay this way and resist any rust. It's good stuff to have and looks great heat-cured.

That should be everything you need during your engine assembly.

Excellent! I'd give ya more pts if i could :) So what about the freeze plugs?? Some say you need some sealer, some say you dont need any? I'll be dammed if this block leaks!

Is the Mopar RTV better than the black or blue stuff you get at the parts store?

Blue is just a general silicon sealant. The black RTV-ATF is formulated to specifically repel ATF, and oil-based fluids as well. I'd say it's better to use and it's worked flawlessly for me. I'm sure other brands make it but it was easiest for me to buy at MOPAR while I was getting the anerobic sealant and other parts.

As for plugs and galleys... you install new ones by cleaning the holes carefully to scrape off all the old remains and rust, then put a skin coat of RTV sealant on the outer sealing surface of the new plug, and drive it into the block (NOT TOO FAR!) with a socket and breaker bar that fits well so you can tap on the end of the handle to drive it in squarely until it fits like the original.

Another sealant specified in the service manual is Loctite 51817... you can get it simply as "Loctite 518" at a Toyota dealership.

I did some SERIOUS researching and crossreferencing this summer... Loctite 19614 is a Green-colored torque cure anaerobic sealer sold only by Mopar. Doubt it is any different from regular anaerobic sealants. Search the archives for details or email me.

As far as the freeze plugs, I used brand new ones, and polished the galleys with really fine grit sandpaper. I also fugged up alot and even drove one freeze plug completely into the block, had to remove it with pliers :o The rebuilt motor leaked a few drops to a puddle out each of the freezeplugs, then suddenly they all just sealed, and haven't leaked since.

Not sure about the block sealer, but I'm almost positive that permatex makes the RTV and copper sprays for Mopar.

Is this the right stuff for the bedplate?? Its the only sealant the dodge dealer had, but it is in a pinkish tube, and is red, but no where does it say its an anerobic torque cure sealant. Just want to be positive this is the right stuff before i start the engine assembly. Part # 4318083

That's it! Use it for the bedplate and oil pump.
