wondering where and how much it would be to get a decent engine stand/lift, whatever i would need to take it out of the car, and work on it.

someone has to know how much and where to get a lift/stand whatever.

You will have to check around at some places, but generally, engine hoists can be rented, or bought for anywhere from 100-200 bucks. You dont *need* a engine stand, but they are nice to have. Also have at least 2 jack stands, and a good hydrolic floor jack. 2 jacks may be even helpful too. Air tools are a great investment too, if thats in your budget. I'm gonna be ready to pull my motor/tranny out this weekend, and i took off my hood to help give more clearance/room to do it, it will def help. Thats all i can think of for now.

If you guys have a harbor freight out there check that out. I know that they are mail order too, so you may be able to look around the web and find something related to Harbor Freight... They are much cheaper than going to most other stores... For under 200 you can get a decient Cherry picker... But once you pick it you have to stand it... Engine stands run around 70 bucks there.. They are made by pittsburg steel and are life time warrantee, so you know it should last.

hey guys. for our engine, do i really need a 2 ton cherry picker? 4000lbs??? how much do i really need to get able to take it out and stand it. not that i even know what im doing.

The engine doesn't weigh any more than 300-350 lbs. This of course doesn't include the tranny which weighs another 100 lbs.

1 ton = 2000 lbs. (not assuming anyone doesn't know this, but I've read way too many "funny" spellings on the board of late)

more importantly. i don't have anything good to attach a pulley to to lift the engine. so realistically, in a baetdown crappy one car garage with rhino ramps a 2 ton jack and stands, what do i need to get my engine out. i need a stand correct? thats like.....40 bucks at most. what do i need to lift it? where to get it? how much?

what else do i need to know so i don't kill myself

hey i bought an engine stand for like 75 bucks and borrowed a cherry picker
oh and u might want to buy bolts to hold the engine in the engine stand as well as remove the clutch from the engine..

You can pick up and engine stand for $50-$75. And rent and engine lift, or buy, a lot of autop parts stored will rent these.

what capacity do i need for these things. a 500 lb or more stand and a 500lb or more lift? what do i need to do with bolts to stand the engine. whats this about bolts to remove the clutch. ive never gone anywhere near takin my engine out but now im working on it, so it would be good to know everything i can. can someone lay out the engine removal process (not the remove this and remove that, but what SPECIFICALLY i need to lift it, stand it, etc

hey man..its pretty simple..(right)
youll need a cherry picker..any would work fine
and engine stand..i got the only one they had at autozone i think its for 700lbs (i maybe wront) if you got to the store and take a look at the ones they have there ..youll see what i mean about the bolts..
i wish i had my pics i took but my stupid ass pc jammed.
the bolts will hold the engine to the stand cause the stand does not come with them..you may also want to get the nuts too.
about taking out the clutch .

well becuases with the stand i bought there wasnt enough clearance to bolt the engine to the stand
the main thing about removing an engine if u have never done it before is to plan it out..
read as much as u can in here and in your chilton manual..
once your ready to remove the engine label the wires..what goes were try taking pics of stuff such as where does the hoses go..
and amogst other things..
btw what exactly are u doing to the engine?

yeah finding an engine hoist sucks. Luckily my friend had one to borrow, boy it sure came in handy but it sure takes up a lotta space even though it folds up. O_0 they're like 150 at kragen that's the one I borrowed it not the best but it worx. heh I'm glad I didn't have to blow 150 bux and then just have it sit in my garage as a clothes rack or something. My neighbor was cleaning out his garage and he hooked me up with an engine stand too :)
