How easy is it to remove the intake manifold? Would I have to pull the engine? If not, what do I need to do to remove the manifold? I've decided to trying porting my stock mani b/c I don't have the money right now to buy the Indy manifold (don't really want to spend $500 either). All I'm basically goin to do is remove/grind down some of the rough, obtrusive areas.

It's not diffucult, just very time consuming. You don't have to take the engine out, but you will need to put the car on jack stands and use some long extenders to bet at some of the nuts holding it on the head. Having a friend help is a big plus. It's really is just unbolting alot of stuff, it just takes a while to do it.

Best bet, use a dremmel with a flex extension, and set aside alot of time to do it. I'd look into the indy manifold or take it to a shop to get ported/polished myself. I can understand about saving money, but better to spend the $200+ and have someone else do it.

Yeah it' snot too bad geting the manifold off, just takes time (like Todd said). Be prepaired to work by feel since your arm will be in the way of seeing the bolts as you undo them. 3", 6" 10" extensions for the 3/8" drive ratches will be very handy.

For porting, I agree look into spending the money to get someone to port it. ARD charges $80, so with shipping both ways you are around $100 for a P&P manifold done right, if you can afford the down-time. If not look into picking up a junkyard manifold and P&P that... right in the $200 area.

Only around $100 shipped to p&p the manifold? That sounds pretty good. Have you had this done? If you have, about how much down time are we talking, and how much of a difference will I see?

down time, a day or so... just be advised, the lower plenum has a bolt right next to the alternator mounting bracket that is a pain in the azzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yes I had mine done by ARD, I liked the work, I am happy with the quality and workmanship.

As for down-time, give em a call. Whatever transit time is for shipping to Houston from where you are at, and what method of shipping you do. Plus I know ARD is pretty busy mine was only gone for a little over a week including ship time. But ARD is a bit busier now then before, so call and see what they can do for you.

What kind of gasket sealer to use? My ard mani and tb should be coming any day now. }(

As to difference you'd see?

Well, I have an extrude honed intake manifold, and I saw about a 1/10th improvementin my 1/4 mile, which translates to roughtly +5 wheel HP, or 7-8 or so crank HP (rough estimate, I don't know what it really is).

I's say it would be the same for a port and polish job too.
