45893, New Alternator Posted by Jasvb TS2K2, Mar-04-03 04:46 AM
I have been getting the battery light on for a few weeks now. My interior lights seem to dim at times. My fuel pump sounds louder and then gets silent. RPMs drop suddenly. Just a mess. I think it might be the alternator going. I have two amps, neon lights, electrical gauges, El-glow gauges, just alot of things running so it might have served it's time. I need something to power it all but also not to kill me in weight and function. I like speed but my system and lights too. Anyone have any suggestions of a good quality non-performance affecting alternator? If there is such a thing? :wary TIA

i have one from them in my car, and it works great. the amperage output at idle isnt really much better than stock, but once you get beyond 1500 RPM or so theres a definate difference. this, in combination with a good battery (optima, stinger, etc.) would rule, because the upgraded battery would help make up for any extra draw at idle (like at a stoplight or whatever), while the extra "umph" from the alternator would quickly re-charge the battery while driving.

you sure your battery isnt just going out autozone will do a battery/alternator test for free.
But you can get that light when your battery is starting to go also

I would hope not. My Red Top Ultima is only 8 months old, that wouldn't be right. I tested the battery cause I was getting similar issues back in Nov and the readings where normal. Used one of those testers that have a reverse side that heats like a toaster...:D

autozone cannot test our alternators (and i would assume that applies to all the other auto parts stores too). apperantly they need some special harness or somthing....who knows. i would get the battery checked out just to make sure. its free, so why not?

They should have all the conections needed to various alternators... Same thing with Starters.
