I got a modular clutch kit on ebay....what the hell is this thing??

How am I supposed to install it? Does anyone know anything about these. I know how to change a clutch but this thing looks a little goofy. I need help bad I am supposed to be installing this thing today.

The modular clutch is a flywheel/clutch combo, no need for alignment tools, etc. You bolt the modular clutch to the flexplate from the back(motor side), there are four bolts.

NOTE: I have never done this to our cars but what u have to do is drop the tranny. Unbolt pressure plate and disk. And i beleive u do need a clutch alignment tool because u have to make sure your disk is straight so it doesnt rub on any sides.Put pressure plata back on and you should be good to go.

ok I know how to install a clutch but the flywheel doesnt have any teeth on it for the starter....is this how our cars are??

Has anyone else bought the sachs modular clutch??

If I even have the right one, it was a great deal I got in on ebay for like $210 shipped from eCLUTCHMASTER (for those like me who cant afford a better clutch)

A modular clutch bolts up similar to a torq converter. There is a flex plate which has the teeth for the starter. What you do is drop the trans slip the old clutch off The clutch gets unbloted before the trans comes off and slip the new onee on. Makes it to be a really easy install. then the clutch assembly bolts on to the flexplate. you can bolt the two together after the trans is back on.

I just did a ATX->> MTX conversion on my 97 eclipse and have a Sachs clutch
I put the clutch on the shaft in the transmission and put it all up there as one assy. There is a this metal plate with a 10mm bolt on the center of it on the bottom and back of the transmission and will come out when you get the tranny off of the engine and out of the car. Then I put the 4 bolts through the back of the flex plate which has teeth just like a flywheel and torqued them down. You have to have someone hold the crankshaft so it doesnt turn on you. Also, you'll just have to turn the clutch because there is a certain pattern to get all 4 bolts to fit. The clutch has 3 miles on it and whistles when it is in neutral and Im completely off of the clutch only. Not like the car is gonna die, but its noticable. People have said it was the TOB which was provided with the new clutch from Sachs. Others have said it just needed time to get the glaze off on the new clutch. This clutch will run you in the range of $230 brand new, at least thats what I paid from NOPI. Assuming you have to ship and/or Pay Taxes... Grrr :rolleyes

If the tranny is out and you have the modular clutch in your sights, changing it is easier than changing either of your headlight bulbs. I promise. :thumbsup

You ought to pick up a new throw out bearing if you haven't already. Grease it up good, slip off the old clutch, slip off the old TOB, replace with new, begin reinstalling the tranny.

TIP!
If you drain and drop your oil pan, there is a little access port on the bottom of the tranny on the block side that you can remove to see the bottom of the flex plate and get easier access to the 4 bolts that hold it to the clutch. Remove the starter and use a pry bar or something to turn the flex plate as you need to get to the 4 flex plate bolts. I would mark one of them for realignment, as it only goes on one way. 1 of the bolts is not in line with the others.

YOU CAN DO EET! MODULAR CLUTCH RULES! LOL

Oil pan can stay, just drop the cross member out of the way, and remove the inspection shield.

for you with a Sachs clutch already, how does it feel??? is it hard or mushy?? Im plannin to buy one this commin june and hope it can handle racing and such.....
