Can I use the Autometer Full Sweep pyrometer gauge as an EGT gauge? It measures 0-1600 degrees and comes with a probe.

That is an EGT gauge...it says pyro meter but it also says EGT really small on it too. I have that one too. Same exact thing.

yessss, i have the pyrometer, it was an easy install and it says in small letters egt on it. The things with pyrometers is that they are more accurate and they are faster acting than standard egt gauges, but are easier to damage, like when you get it don't drop it or anything, but it works great and is full sweep so it looks cool and it acts fast so you can tell if your egt is too high right when it is too high not A little bit after

how close do you need to mount an egt? I've got a greddy 4 to 1 and I'd like to be able to re-sell it once I go turbo. any thoughts, idea?

i mounted mine where the 4 pipes come into the collector into the single downpipe, this gives you an everage temp across all 4 cylinders, but people have placed it in the #4 header pipe, but that will only tell you what's going on in that cylinder. i am going turbo soon too, and i was going to put the egt probe right before the turbo, i may mount it after the turbo in the downpipe because it will be a whole lot easier, but it will lower egt reading approximately 200 degrees, but it will give you a less accurate reading then if you munted it before the turbo.

Mount the probe in runner number 4, 2 to 3 inches from the head. If you mount it farther down the pipe you may not catch any problems until they are too late... of course there are people who tune without one so... **cough***Thura***couch** Exhaust gas travels in pulses as combustions occures so you don't actually get an average temp, the gauge will fluxuate as the pulses hit the probe. #4 runs the hottest so I say put it there. If you really want to be accurate get 4 Probes and a multi-channel gaugeand watch them all.
