45439, Attn: Gary Howell........What's the chances of a 99 mtx AFX ECU any time soon? Posted by a_miller_76, Feb-27-03 04:26 AM
I really really want one of these. As stated before in posts I'm seriously considering going with an all-motor build and this will be the deciding factor if I do so. Any chance these will be made any time in the next year?

Well even if the re-wire would work I couldn't use my stock ECU for a core charge cause it's the wrong year. Hence it will cost me a lot more.
I was also told by dino that the '97 will not work at all. I'm sure he thought about a rewire before making that statement.

Uhm....that's all they've made so far. Unless you're an auto. In that case you can't use it.

Each year has a different hack to access the ECU. They only figured out the 97 so far.

why not rewire it, the reason they list it as a 97 only is because there is chhanges in the harness so to protect themselves they say 97 only just so some idiot doesnt buy it for his 98 and try to plug it in. We've got a guy on the ASOG board that rewired a Mopar Neon ecu and is runnin that.
I mean come on do you really think there is a difference in the program for the same car just one/two years up. its just the harness is different, so you just get the connector from a 97 and splice all the wires (really wont take more than 1-2 hours to splice/solder all the connections and your set.
Maybe Im wrong but I doubt it. :thumbsup

I wish Dino or someone would jump in here and answer that. Cause if we can rewire stuff I'll do it next week.

It's the same block head and sensors, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't just plug in and work. I think somone with a AFX ECU should bite the bullet and plug it in on someone's 98, 99 and 96.

it can be done. The ECU pinouts are different between years, but the wire colors are all the same. The difficulty as i see it is justfiying the price of something that you may or may not be able to make work. AT minimum, you'd need a car with a 97 style ECU connecotr so that it'll actually plug in (no 95's) and a 97 car that you can verify harness pinouts with. Or, a 97 factory service manual with the ECU pinouts so that you can compare.
Someone make it happen, do a writeup, then we can say that it works. If someone wants to try it with a stock 97 ECU, Thura (Avenger) has one for sale in For Sale/Wanted for cheap.

What about that Mopar Neon ECU? Can that be used on a 95 with an AT?
Thanks

This can be done, someones from asog.net toook a mopar performance ecu and rewired his 95 harness and used the mopar ecu from a neon, now correct me if i am wrong but arnt the avenger ecu and our ecu same exact thing? Another thing, can some list all of the things that the afx has because while i was on the phone with a jet rep, he said that if i made a special list they will design the ecu like that as long as i agree that its for off road use only (yea right) 3 quaters of my car is illegal! but anywho if they match what afx has done then wont there ecu be worth it for the 95 ODBI ecu?:thumbsup

what i dont get is that mopar sells different PCMs for the different years. one for 95s, one for 96s, and one for 97-99.
the changes follow the exact same PCM changes that our cars have. look in the mopar performance catalog.

that is the 96 OBDII PCM connector style in that picture. or at least it is the same as my 96 OBDII style. so why wont they work. they are for our motor, our sensors, our trans (MTX), our connections (96 OBDII at least). im going to bite the bullet soon after i get my MP 60MM TB and buy it brfore my CAI. need to see if mopar stuff will work on a mopar. i drive a talon after all. and that would make it a mopar.
