45163, Need help with some decision making, please! (kinda long) Posted by FlyinEsi, Feb-23-03 05:34 PM
I want to put something else on my car before spring break, I'm going down to sea level baby! and I can't decide what I should get next, or if I should just save my money.
I've been looking into a lot of things lately, so here are my options
1. 30% UDP 2. 60mm Throttle Body 3. Crower stage 2 cams 4. Lower Tie Bars (Front & Rear) 5. Computer ECU 6. B&M short shifter 7. Motor Mount Inserts
Okay, now I have questions on each of these...
1. Can this be done w/o taking out the engine...I really don't want to do that...I hear the results are amazing, but I just got through replacing the belts 4 times and I don't want to chance messing it up again
2. Don't really know how much of a difference this will make...is it worth the money? and pretty easy to do?
3. I would LOVE to get these, but again, I don't want to pull the engine...but is it worth it?
4. I already have upper strut bars, and I hate body roll, these are the cheapest on the list and would make driving a bit more fun
5. ECU - Lovin' the sound of this computer, but I think I have read this is only for the '97s, is that right? And why wouldn't it work for the '98s, everything is the same, isn't it? Also, I can't find a link that shows the prices, and I have tried going through www.afxmfg.com but all their links don't work.
6. Shortshifter, I have driven an eclipse with one of these and I liked it, but I don't know if it's worth the $180...is it? Do you guys really like the short throw and is it worth it if I'm really not that fast and the shift doesn't make a difference.
7. I want to get these anyway...can someone send me a link to the best ones...tia
Thanks guys, I appreciate your input. Dan

>1. 30% UDP >2. 60mm Throttle Body >3. Crower stage 2 cams >4. Lower Tie Bars (Front & Rear) >5. Computer ECU >6. B&M short shifter >7. Motor Mount Inserts
1. You don't have to take out the engine. You simply take out the motor mount inserts and lower the motor a fit so the pulley clears the frame. I did mine, not a fun install but its not bad either.
2. Yes it will make a small difference, but if I were you I would wait until you have some more mods to use that extra air flow
3, Don't know much about these, but I would assume you have to take off the cam gears so you might as well wait until you need to change the timing belt and all that.
4. Just don't buy those aluminum POS bars. They will not help you. Something like Glenn's would be nice though.
5. I think there are subtle differences in the ECUs, but am not sure. I have heard that the ECUs do not cross over years for whatever reason. I also think you have to call Howell to find anything out about those. Ive looked and could not find any information online.
6. I wouldn't buy the B&M unless you find a good deal on a used one or something. I liked mine, but it is SO much more comfortable shifting a stock shifter. Much smoother. Maybe have your stocker cut and rewelded shorter? (by the way, that was my car your drove right? :P )
7. Energy Suspension have some for our cars. My car has those in it, so you kinda felt them when you drove it. Ptuning has them last time I checked, and you can use the 2gnt discount code too
8. And don't listen to Brian. He has boost on the brain. :+

3, They are nice, you don't have to pull the engine but you are pulling teh crank pulley, so if you can do this and the UDP at the same time (funds allowing)you save yourself some work. But I would probably wait on these, make sure you have good airflow in and out before you put these on(I don't know what you have already so...)
6. They feel very nice when shifting, but the price of admission is pretty high, I would wait for a deal on it.

Well, I'd love to boost, but no funds yet...I have money in savings, but that is for after I graduate to make sure I can pay for all the new shit that comes up...someday
I think I'm just going to go fairly cheap and get the tie bars and motor mount inserts...thanks guys...
