44762, I've tried yet its still there...(eXhaust problem) Posted by bokchoi, Feb-18-03 09:24 PM
I really need some help or suggestions with the annoying rattling/vibrating noise from my exhaust when I hit 3000-4000 rpm. After reading all the forums about it, I've tried them except for the resonator. I have a OBX muffler and it was sounding great until the test pipe was installed. Somebody suggested a change of spark plug wires and plugs; I did that - still there (NGK plugs+Magnecor 8.5mm racing wires). I've read about gutting the cat but most of you believe it isn't as good as a test pipe. My problem is that I prefer keeping the performance. So I was just wondering if there is any other solution before I go off spending more money and buying a resonator? Thanks... :wary

Is it a metal type rattle, like metal banging on metal or does it sound internal to the exhaust? If internal the resonator could quiet you down, and remove it. If it's external and metal it could be a problem with fitment of teh test pipe, if thats what caused the sound.

I believe its an internal problem. It was bolted on nice and tight, but I could take another look at it. I'm pretty sure, however, that its internal. SO I guess a resonator is my only solution huh. Thanks for helping though I appreciated it :thumbsup

check your heat sheilds to see if they are rubbin against the pipe while your drivin.....
good luck... a resonator shouldnt set you back more than 20-30 bux, and then weldin it on another 20-30 bux....

I have the OBX axle back, and I love the sound of it, but at about 3000 rpms it vibrates the sh*t out of my rear hatch cover and sunroof. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the system, it just happens to resonate at those rpms. I think that the ONLY thing that can be done is to get a resonator (or glasspack) to minimize the vibration.
