Alright..

I'm looking to slap a turbo on my '97 RS. Stage 2, hahn or star, haven't decided.


#1- What are the key advantages or disadvantages between these two kits? Is is basically the same thing, but a different brand name?


#2- I don't have a way of putting this on myself, no garage, and quite honestly, not enough experience. What kind of labor costs can i expect?


#3- Unfourtunatley, I have an automatic transmission. Is adding a turbo a bad idea b/c of this? I've seen pictures of broken trannys, and am not too quick to add my own to that collection.



I figure that straight all-motor mods wont get me the kind of gains i'm looking for. And Im pretty sure I can trust you guys not to give me the "go find yourself a 4g63" talk... definitley not interested in that one.

Don't ask that question its bad nono taboo :P just do your homework and find out what's best for you there are many differences but both do what you want em to as in cram more air into your engine. Once again do your homework.

hmm a competant mechanic can probably do it in oh 6 hours so 6 x 90 = 540 a pretty penny. or three hundred sixty if they go by 60 dollars an hour

No there are not the same but do some research they both have there advantages.

It cost me 530.00 to get mine installed but that was stage 1 with no fmic.

no its not bad but getting a final drive mod will help and give u some low end torque help

HRC's number for install are for a great mechanic and an honest one, what is the chance to find one? My kit, stage 2, took 20 hours. Reason cause of the bumper modifications and other things, so figure 15-18hours by some money hungry shop, charging every little single thing. I paid @$65. $1300. x( If you are serious about it, do it regarless of the auto tranny and other factors.

Or you could do a M/T swap on top of hte turbo kit. Jus another lil option n whatnot. :thumbsup Have fun either way.

since you have time, read the install manual and familiarize yourself with the eclipse fuel system. I can honestly tell you that with iether kits, its just plug and play,. I only knew hot to change the oil on my car. After some research and reading it was peachy onward. Only hard part was taking off some bolts. But if you must get it installed by a garage, just let them do the stage 1. A monkey with a wrench can easily upgrade to stage 2. All it requires is putting on some more pipes and an intercooler. If you're smart, the bumper won't give you any problems. If need be, you can email or im me and I will walk you through it. Two main noticable difference with the kit is the STAR has a better fuel system versus the hrc fuel pressure regulator and the s16g is good for around 300hp where the t3/4 is good for more than that. But NEVER, NEVA EVA EVA ask which is better.

Anyway, I might take you up on your offer. $1300 in shop fees is quite steep, and if installation not as bad as it sounds, i might just as well wait until I CAN do it myself...

I'll get your email and hang onto it until install date... should be some time from now, though. Hard for a college student to save up a few grand for something like this.... and no garage currently, so..


Yeah, I was also looking at that final drive mod, but... one thing at a time..
