I have an exhaust leak on the driver side of my HRC exhaust manifild. I tried tightening the bolt on the driver side thats on the bottom. It moved pretty easily when i went to tighten it. I think its stripped. This sucks! I guess the head threads are stripped out for that bolt. I want to use some studs instead of bolts. What needs to be done to fix this problem. Am I going to have to re tap the hole in the head and use a larger stud in order for it to catch the threads?

I'm not sure if this'll help, but a GS-T exhaust manifold bolts will fit, I can't remember the stupid size though.

I have never helicoiled something but it cant be that hard. I am assuming it makes new threads but wont they be a different size after doing it? So I will need a different sized stud correct?

With a Helicoil, you drill the hole out larger, and tap it for the size of the helicoil. You then screw the helicoil in place, which makes the threads. Then, you will be able to use stock studs. A helicoil is an insert with threads on the outside and threads on the inside, so that it screws into something, and something screws into it. Works really well.

You can get helicoils from NAPA, they're pretty cheap, like a couple bones a piece. You can also buy the tapping tool and all the accessories needed. Check out NAPA's website, hope that helps. Hektik.
