44530, oil leak thoughts. Posted by Dave_FL, Feb-16-03 10:43 AM
I have been fighting this damn oil leak for a couple months now. I have to put in atleast one quart of oil every week into my car. Its dripping from the area near the oil filter. Every where I park I leave little drips under my car. I suspected it was the valve cover gasket so today I finally took it out and used some sealant to seal up the corners really well. I have a brand new gaske there too. I have a feeling its coming from the head gasket area though. I dont think it could be that because I have arp head studs and a brand new MLS head gasket. When I look under the car I cant see any oil coming from the bottom of the headgasket but it may be coming from the top of it. My head gasket sticks out abotu a half inch out of the back of the engine. I wish I could get this damn thing fixed. It gets expensive buying all these damn quarts of Mobile 1 oil. I am about to give up on it and take it in to a shop for them to figure the shit out.

Try and check out the cam oil seals, and also the oil pump housing. If its coming from up high on the timing belt side, then best guess is the cam oil seals, which means the cams and timing belt must come off. If its just around the oil pump housing, right at the end of the passenger side of the block, then that could be it. Check your oil pan gasket too, as oil can leak out and get pushed up on the block as you drive. There is also a oil galley freeze plug on the timing belt side of the engine, as those can leak also. That will be halfway between the cam oil seals, and the bottom by the oil pump housing.

Its just almost impossible to check the area behind the timing belt cover. That cover is blocking everything.

it might seem so tupid, but check your oil plug, mine was leaking just like that in the same area, it was a cracked oil plug gasket
